Stable corporate job or startup

Currently working in a corporate with 7 YOE (non tech, non MBA). Offered a role in series A startup in Gurgaon. Role might be good but considering from job stability and cost of living perspective. I have liabilities and have been recently married.

Imo this should be your approach:

  1. Talk to the founders and/or current employees and find out the runway and ESOPs structure and plans for more funding.
  2. If all checks out, talk to your wife if she's okay with this move as it involves risk. Explain her the risk and reward(current hike you'll be getting plus the chance to cash out ESOPs in future which is the real wealth creating factor). Do what she says.

Thanks for the approach. 1) is sorted, 2) is being deliberated :)

You're recently married so there's some time until you are loaded with more responsibilities. It's probably your last chance in life at going into a Series A startup. Later you might prefer to have WLB in life

Yeah, that is definitely a motivating factor for joining, lately thinking from worst case scenario that if laid off after 6 months, how long will it take to find a decent job.

If you believe in the startup objective and founders and if they have a runway of at least 1.5-2 years then can probably still take the leap

Yeah, they have raised a good series A in the midst of funding winter. Still very early stage, cause of worry is funding scenario remains same in 2024.

Most startup founders are fanatics and merciless. Stay away bussy

Switch to a corporate itself. You will get a hike there as well
