I mean, I get both sides. I'm am early stage founder. We're fully remote, using tools like Monday and Teams to manage communication and collaboration.
It's not easy - some tasks slip through the cracks, and brainstorming is tougher. Meetings are agenda-driven, so the off-the-cuff conversations that often lead to great ideas are much tougher to foment. It's tough to figure out if people are putting in a full day's work. And no, "How does it matter, if they're doing all the work given to them?" doesn't cut it. It's hard to measure efficiency and effectiveness in a young startup, where you can't benchmark against other people.
Having said that...the positives are amazing. Our team is from across the country - Delhi, Bombay, Bhubaneswar, Simla and more. I love the diversity that brings.
The younger folks who join are living with family, and around friends. They don't have to uproot themselves and spend a bomb to live in a metro. They can save their whole salary, rather than spending it all on inflated rents.
Oh, and the lack of a commute is AMAZING. We don't have to spend an hour in traffic each way. The days my Delhi team meets - once every fortnight - we get much lesser done, though of course it's fun to meet my colleagues twice a month.
Plus we save a TON on office costs :)
