4-5 months break after one year work-ex.
I am a 2022 engineer graduate from a tier 1 uni, with a work ex of one year. I was working as an APM and was laid off recently and have been thinking of giving CAT to pursue MBA, hoping the market is better by the time I graduate from MBA.
Plan B in case I am not able to crack a decent IIM is coming back to job market. By the time this happens I will have at-least a 4 month gap on my resume already.
What do you think will be the impact of this gap on my resume? Should I just focus on getting a job? What are your insights?
MBA ka mann hai toh kar ke khatam kar yaar, baad me nahi ho paati
Regret hota hai kya na karne ka? I know subjective question hai par what is your take?
Absolutely bro/sis, when you see your batchmates taking on a different career trajectory just because of a degree, hurts like hell. At the same time, you know you’re doing good in life & career but jab tak India me ho toh tab tak MBA >>>>>> Experience
Sooner the better
As a Tier 1 eng + Tier 1 MBA, my input would be please find job if you want to do MBA. One of the key skills you learn in MBA is time management, taking gap to prepare for MBA is ideally not a good indicator of this quality. Also it is 20-30% probability to convert Tier 1 MBA interview even if you get shortlisted in CAT exam so you have to keep 2 attempts required as normal.
That makes alot of sense. Tier 1 advice. Thank you @TinyHumidity.
Hey, IIM grad and a fellow PM, also part of placecomm hence my 2 cents here
Well taking a gap should be normalized, career breaks are much needed in our current hustle and bustle. IIM placements are very different, shortlisting is done basis few params and resume only helps in selection process.
Key param for getting shortlisted for interviews: Acads grades Ug univ Prev experience (no of months matter with 20+ months you can sit for 90% of companies) Industry of work PoR in ug
So If MBA is ur proffered route I would suggest joining any company and continue building ur profile.
