Damn. That's some next level micro managing. Blessed to never have such managers

Seems like this is the result of many such instances where the kid pretty much showed himself to be unreliable. And the manager couldn’t fire him or get work done.
“You can’t fool me again and again”, “i have given you enough chances” - this is after it would have happened way too many times. People like this should be let go immediately.
Don’t think there is a victim in this case.

Valid point. We only know half the story

I had a similar reportee, however rather than asking him to share live location I gave him a fair warning that such unreliability will lead to low performance grades or worse termination. I also shared instances of situations where said person was unreliable and how that affected work helping him understand how his actions can be construed as unprofessional. Helped getting this reportee on track without escalating it further.

Why even give out your personal number? Just use a secondary prepaid sim for all this.

That's actually a decent idea. Work sim and personal sim should be separate.

Hard to do it though, especially with separating important logins for bank and various services. Bhasad wala kaam.

I have seen such a manager unfortunately. Some Indian managers are a nightmare.

If you still want to work there use an app like "Fake GPS" or something to spoof your location.

Otherwise just get out of this company.

Missing a lot of context. Seems like you're not reliable. It may be unpaid leave and you could take 250 of these in a year and claim you're not being compensated - doesn't mean that you are useful to the company in any way. That you're lying about a sick leave might be a premise required to fire you for the manager. Plus you're a team lead and there's reason to think that you're a bad example to your team. That you've stayed at the company despite the "slavery" might be because you can get away with it here and cannot find employment of such convenience elsewhere. You stand to gain sympathy from slackers just like you from this post.

Damn looks like this is the norm.

Last week received a call from a recruiter - conditions where it's a full office role, not even hybrid.

No flexibility on timings as well, strict 10 - 7 not even 30min here and there allowed.

You either work from office or take leave, no in between.

Glad I turned down during the initial discussions itself, else would've faced something similar to this 👀

Indian corporate scene is an absolute shithole.
