Confession: I look down upon people sometimes, I hate myself for that
For whatever reason. I have a superiority complex because I’ve done okay relative to my humble roots. But while I am nice in person, mentally I often feel superior and smarter. And I don’t like that I think that way. Trying to do away with it, but idk how to succeed :/

- What's the quality that you possess that makes you feel smarter or superior to other people?
- What triggers these thoughts on you? As in, what would some say or do that triggers these thoughts
I have always felt I’m more aware. Versus people who were in my locality, school, etc, I ended up doing better in life than most. And while in the larger scheme of things, it’s not like I’m killing it, I felt like that gave a chip on my shoulder
What triggers these thoughts: just in conversations, social gatherings, talking to people
It’s random

Aware about what? Current affairs / geopolitics / India vs Sri Lanka match score?

Hangout with people who are smarter and doing better than you. You will learn your lesson.
Hmm
Very true. I have been in rooms like that.
But most rooms that I am in, it is the way it is.
Means you are not mature. You are not thing holistically. Being judgemental and thinking you are superior is a toxic mentality. Try and read books around this, which will
Make you humble and non-judgemental.
It's a good sign that you are aware of your complex. Don't hate yourself as not everybody realises this on their own. When you feel like that, try to acknowledge it instead of ignoring it. Slowly over a period of time your thoughts change and see everyone as equal. If you are comfortable, try journaling your thoughts and find the pattern of it. That might also help.
Hey, thanks a ton for saying that
Journaling is a great idea, I’ve been wanting to get to it for some time but never did it
I guess being more watchful of my thoughts should be a good thing to do.

Good advice^ it's futile to fight negative thoughts, they only increase in weight and occurrence. Need to analyse the thought and let it pass. Use anything you can and discard the rest.
For ex - if you realise some person doesn't understand much about geopolitics, change the subject to something else they do know about/are interested in and so are you.
If you think you are the smartest in the room, then you are in the wrong room

I used to think same when I was in college and cracked a pretty good paying internship but now down to 1 years spending time with senior Engineers in company, I think I don't know a shit compare to what I was thinking about in college

I used to feel the same when I was in my first job, then I keep upgrading and kept switching jobs, now I am the dumbest person in my current team.
Although it feels overwhelming most of the time, I am trying to catch things up, but I am happy because I am getting to learn so much from others.
So, you are not anything special, you are just in the wrong team/room. Remember smartest people never have that type of feeling.

I have the same problem. Can we meet in person? Maybe that will change your mind
