While the company is doing absolutely poorly and laying off people left right and centre, the two so-called founders are on vacation to the US chilling and hanging out with people.

It's a disgrace that the Indian startup ecosystem has founders like them who are busy expanding their social and financial status at the cost of employee wellbeing and mental health.

What a disappointment.

Just wanted to give some updates now that it has been 1 month since the last post

1) Senior Leadership from Tech (3) , a senior director from Product , Finance Head have all resigned. Strategy team has been dissolved. 
2) There are more people in the pipeline and will get more clarity by month end.
3) Everyone over the CTC of 60 lakh has been asked about the revenue that they bring in and based on that, their position is being reconsidered.
4) All contract workers have been terminated. Interns have been told that they won't be receiving PPOs.
5) Senior Management Has been asked to take 20% paycuts. 
6) Even at Junior level, people have been asked to take pay cuts or resign.
7) Lots of tools used in tech are being removed and AWS subscription has also been revised.


Meanwhile HRs have been celebrating on slack channels that Yubi has been ranked in Top 25 companies for career development :/

Gave an interview, had a final round with the founder.
The founder asked the reason for changing job, I replied honestly stating it's for WLB (same answer I gave in previous rounds). 
The founder lost it and started bragging that he was working till 4 AM on a Sunday night and came to the office at 9AM , the next day to attend meetings , he expects the same from his employees and one should not expect WLB in start ups.
The hike they were offering was minimal and no esops. Why would anyone join such a Company? Especially when there are no monetary benefits and work seems exploitation?

IIT grad here building a venture backed startup. I think 99% of folks here believe that venture backed founders are super entitled and in a much "cosier" position than employees

Just sharing a few facts about our journey so far if it helps anyone improve their perspectives-

1) Paying ourselves 33% of our campus salary & 60% of what we are paying to our employees (Talking about Pure Base Salary here, not including ESOPs)

2) Insane stress - You basically have to raise money to build (esp if its deeptech because of the high fixed costs) and there are predefined metrics you have to always chase, sometimes just beyond yourselves. 

Your product will be copied if it's good because well, they always have more money than you. You work 7 days a week for insane hours, chasing metrics required to be "afloat" 

3) 99% of venture backed startups result in 0 liquidity gain for founders. So basically in all likeliness, everything is for a net negative return compared to if we took the campus job

So, when you wholeheartedly bash founders as if they are sitting On a goldmine while you are toiling for THEIR gold Treasure, just understand that more likely than not, there is not really any gold but rather an irrational hope they are clinging to

Also, Yes-we pay above market to our employees (100% hike for the last one) but the truth is some startups just Can't afford it. And ironically, there is a much higher looking down on these startups with meagurely paid founders rather than giants like Tech Mahindra paying peanuts to their employees while having a 1000% salary hike for the executives. 

Yeah, most startups need to do better but please appreciate if someone is atleast trying to do better because trust me, it's INSANELY HARD.. 

The number of posts I see about Flipkart making hundreds millionaires is way too less than the ones I see about pinpointing at every single mistake early stage startups do & I just wanted to express my opinion on it

He is saying that if we work 💯 h then we can become a developed nation soon.

I think they should read Union budget, how government spends and it's mostly on subsidy, freebies and repayment of interest.

Basically, if we slog also then 30-40% of amount will go out as tax and that tax will be spent on useless stuff.

PS - 💯 h working janta will not get any concession in education, health, tourism etc.

I'm unable to understand what sort of entitlement does the leadership hold to ask their employees to work their ass off without any compensation for their efforts.

Leadership is so clueless about what they are doing, they fired 3-4 people whom they had hired a month ago. Imagine the situation 😂

And I don't see this stopping at Unacademy anytime soon

They are aching left, right and centre. Still some people are making advt videos with Sachin.

And the nalla has time to tweet and enjoy vacation, I pity the investors who funded them.

I understand that companies want to start new year with new energy. But doing it in the last working week of this year is just nuts. 

Let folks enjoy the year. Do it in Jan first/ second week. 

By doing now, you’re literally spoiling this year and the next. 

To founders out there: grow some spine, tell your investors you won’t do it now. I don’t think it’ll hurt your company much (I mean you’ve not done enough, and that’s the reason you’re in this mess, probably suck it up and wait for few more weeks)

They  opt for dec, because its quarter ending. The books will appear cleaner from Jan and that  quarter will look better when it ends.

I am Thankful to the funding winter it has revealed true colors of so called Founders, who would not stop talking about culture, Growth,  scale etc on Twitter and LinkedIn

Take Byjus, for instance, they claim to be revolutionizing education, it's all a facade! All they care about is squeezing every penny out of parents' pockets. Putting large amount of people in debts they didn’t even signup for. 

And let's talk about Dukaan, shall we? The absolute 🤡 of a founder with zero empathy( 90% staff laidoff and the guts to project it as some AI ML innovation)


These startup founders have lost touch with reality. They've become obsessed with valuation and funding rounds, completely forgetting the essence of why they started in the first place. It's all about becoming the next "unicorn" and impressing investors, while the customers and sellers are left in the dust.

Gone are the days of genuine innovation and passion for solving real-world problems. It's all about the money now, and they don't care who gets hurt along the way. The startup ecosystem has become a rat race, with everyone trying to outdo each other and sacrificing ethics and integrity in the process.

It's sad to see the true colors of these startup founders shining through, and it's high time we demand more transparency, accountability, and genuine value from these so-called "disruptors." Enough with the facade,

At the end all these founders will get an exit with generational wealth, the employee and people who have built it will be left in Dust. 

My laanat to all such founders and company. May the boat sink and hopefully someday we have accountability in place for these people.

I work as a Product manager at a series A well funded startup.
This company is run by a solo founder/CEO.

This is a wannabe tech and product startup that does not care about their product at all. The internal review meetings get 5 minutes on product and 55 minutes on business and operations on a good day!

All they care about is how to run operations and tech just works on automation instead of building the product for the end user. Every OKR cycle runs for two months where OKRs are set for product but we end up building internal tools because things get "re-prioritised" and operations "can not miss targets".

The worst part is that the strategy changes every 2 months and every week, the CEO keeps adding new "wants". Almost like a baby seeing shiny new toys.
At this stage, the product has become a mess with no identity at all!

This baby always says "But is that even do-able" acts critical and tries to seem smart in front of their employees while lying to the investors and board every other week that we are a tech and product company.

I don't know if this happens at other startups in India. 

Would love to hear what y'all have experienced.

Identifying a Baby founder

You sound like a tech bro, who thinks that only tech runs the world. Huge companies like Tata, reliance etc are built on solid operations and business insights.  
  
 Tech is enabler, if the founder is smart with business and operations, most likely he will make a good business, and unless you start valuing things beyond tech also, you will keep hopping jobs and cribbing why people don’t value you.

As a vanity Indian founder of a startup, you have overcome certain very complicated social issues to reach here. 

While this is important, founders also engage in mindless hedonistic activities while all throughout claiming the company in loss or market crash. 

1. I engage in individual interests selflessly while the employee might have to go through a pay cut or salary hold up. 
For ex: Founders minting expensive tickets for horse polo or football finals abroad, the same month employees were laid off.

2. I engage Celebrity Warlords and build fancy academies to bring stardom while mercilessly laying off people and trampling over their familial relations. 
Throughout I ensure through PR that my company forecasts are always on top. 

3. I maintain a fancy following in the office who sings Bhajans on me and my life and stories.
For ex: They prefer passouts from small towns or Tier 2- 3 colleges so they accept without questions.

4. I need a hot female in the office who can help compensate for my emasculated and punctured ego.
For ex: this lady will get hikes and unconditional promotion in a year or so. 

5. I hire more than I can afford so this is my way of buffering and validating my own immature decisions. This way I don't lose out on supposed opportunities but I ensure that my company always looks buoyant and alive. 


6. I don't believe in any political correctness but if the business needs it I will engage people to write for my company as promoting ideas and ideologies superfluously. 

7. I want my organisation to be a vanity circus rather than for hiring quality folks. I market as hiring for diversity but this is just the PR stunt.

The US is in its late stage capitalist phase, a ship that's going to sink for the next 50 years. If you're a young person there it doesn't make sense to work as hard as your Grandpa the reward on average isn't as great. 

India on the other hand is poised to become a great multi-trillion $ economy.

Onto something huge. We're talking like 10x growth of the economy here.

Start-ups that have made it like Razorpay, Swiggy, PayTM, even Cred, if they survive will be really huge as capital in the country, liquidity and lifestyles go up over the next 50 years. 

Be the capitalist, take the risks, make bets, work and stack up promotions and money.

Don't join an Infosys and work 70 hours there, do it for a start up of any scale you believe is going to make it. Or better yet start your own.

Work hard and build in India 🇮🇳

I'm tired of this bullcrap. India will not keep growing if the US goes under. And all that growth shit is exaggerated. Divide those numbers by our population and it doesn't amount to shit. 
 All your fancy startups don't even combine up in value to even a single big tech company. 
 Yes we are growing but the inflation is also going up. On the whole I barely see any improvement.

1. hiring very expensive law firms with kick back. 
2. Buying the office space and then hiking the rent to the office around 5x and made money.
3. Fake invoices
4. hiring friends companies for consulting
5. setting up shell companies for hiring
6. Buying Forbes 30 under 30  slots with VC money


Make this list more exhaustive. 

I want to say to these founders : bhai kisko chutiya bana rahe ho... And after all this, they have galls to become Gyan chodeswar on LinkedIn, podcasts etc.
