Google Layoffs - Recruiting
Today evening Google’s VP of Recruiting had an all hands call with global recruiting team to tell them that there’s more layoffs happening in recruiting and people will find out about it through emails in next couple of hours. Such a shitty time to be alive.
This is so sad, petition for Grapevine to start a jobs section to help people who get laid off

May be it wants to deploy its resources towards computing costs... There is rumour among senior management that Google is going to spend 25 billion $ to build one zettaflops (1000 exaflops) of compute....
It can train GPT-4 in 6 hours...
For context, fastest supercomputer is around 1 exaflops...
Tesla plans to have compute of around 100 exaflops by around October 2024

I personally don't feel like having another job board will solve the problem in hiring, the moment this app takes that route it can be absolutely diluted because then it simply becomes another platform to build a top of the funnel.
I like the fact they are waiting it out, hiring is more nuanced. I believe with more data coming in the platform related to orgs, the interview experience they can create a more likely hiring pathway/journey for each org basis industry.
This clubbed with a focused Proof of Work or some sort of Work Verification (like team mates signing off on your experience) can really then turn the tide!
Would love to hear thoughts here!
