Google Layoffs - Recruiting
Today evening Google’s VP of Recruiting had an all hands call with global recruiting team to tell them that there’s more layoffs happening in recruiting and people will find out about it through emails in next couple of hours. Such a shitty time to be alive.
This is so sad, petition for Grapevine to start a jobs section to help people who get laid off
Jobs get built, but turns out it is of no use as DMs is necessary to share your resume 😢
Hey @UtherPendragon, DMs are close to launch. We're testing it's first cut amongst the team.

May be it wants to deploy its resources towards computing costs... There is rumour among senior management that Google is going to spend 25 billion $ to build one zettaflops (1000 exaflops) of compute....
It can train GPT-4 in 6 hours...
For context, fastest supercomputer is around 1 exaflops...
Tesla plans to have compute of around 100 exaflops by around October 2024

I personally don't feel like having another job board will solve the problem in hiring, the moment this app takes that route it can be absolutely diluted because then it simply becomes another platform to build a top of the funnel.
I like the fact they are waiting it out, hiring is more nuanced. I believe with more data coming in the platform related to orgs, the interview experience they can create a more likely hiring pathway/journey for each org basis industry.
This clubbed with a focused Proof of Work or some sort of Work Verification (like team mates signing off on your experience) can really then turn the tide!
Would love to hear thoughts here!

Everything other than software development engineers are dispensable ig
Will just learn to live with minimal means and no aspirations and ambitious
I mean if we can only have a sustainable times I will be happy. Now it’s like either too good or too bad

😲😲😲 what the hell!!! no founders bashing, no suggestions as why the hell the founders or CEO of Google didn’t take salary cut rather than firing folks, no questioning business rationale, no founders and CEO getting rich on investors money posts by any Viners?? Common Viners Google or not let us have the same standards 😜😜

How many are there in the recruiting team? Wondering how much money they will save.
They probably have hundreds of recruiters within their team..makes me wonder how much hiring these people did in a day 🤔🤨
One of the prime reasons would definitely be
-no active hiring due to the ongoing recession resulting in no work at all
- overhiring that paced in 2020 and 2021 (the golden period for techies as well as non techies in the IT industry) and finally these companies got rid of them as per their convenience
-salary market correction
AFAIK they were all highly overpaid as compared to the current market standard salaries of talent acquisition folks.
As a recruiter myself, am really fortunate enough to have a job, I beleive this has been the worst year for us to be honest.
There is a clear shift in the demand supply dynamics in the tech industry given the current economic conditions. Due to less demand, the role of recruiters becomes somewhat redundant. Companies will go for contracting route instead of hiring for such roles in future. Everything is uncertain and believe me, folks at leadership level have one thing on the top of their priority list right now- REDUCING COST
