Tier 1,tier 2, tier 3 pay difference

Just curious, does college tier affect the pay you get for the same role (say SDE1) in big tech like Amazon, Microsoft, etc. ?

Being from a tier1/popular college gets you more negotiation power for sure. It's also slightly harder to get your resume to stand out unless you've previously worked at good orgs that shortlisters may know of.

Tier 1 tag itself immediately puts you in the middle of the salary band for the role. T2/3/+ will start you somewhat below that. This is average case of course, if you’re exceptional, you can negotiate. Also this applies for on campus/new grads only.

For senior roles, there’s increasing more focus on the skill set instead.

SDE's paid higher ?

I compared many SDE vs data scientist/ engineer CTC which were public.

I can see data roles are paid less .

Is it true? Many consider data roles as less coding(tech) roles. Why?
