It's a very Indian mindset to treat or look down upon people who make a lot of money. We find some or the other reason to bring them down. We call them names. Though most of our life problems can be solved by money. 

Just like there is an American dream I think the Indian dream is to stay middle class and bitch about people who do the hard work. 

I understand that there are certain classes of people who are truly disadvantaged in terms of caste or patriarchy but for others it's just being lazy and reluctant to change.

Bitching about people who are successful just gives them a sense of achievement without actually putting in the effort.

The stupidity and arrogance of some leaders in some companies to use colleges as filter criteria for what is clearly irrelevant for the role. 

Mostly these idiots end up fucking up company after company creating these neo-casteist groups sucking off and living off each other.

This identity based hiring is the start of corporate politics. I still don’t understand how difficult it is for fucking idiots to understand that while hiring for most roles you have to encourage diverse backgrounds at the start of the process to help you hire the right candidate for the long term, specially in a startup. 

PS I’m not against preferring candidates from certain colleges if it’s relevant. What i do hate is this herd behaviour of trying to hire only from your alumni the moment you are given leadership roles.

It must be such shitty experience to work under idiots like these if you are not from their alumni colleges because their biases play into all evaluations they do about their teams.

This is pretty common, has been like that for ages. It’s their company and their rules. You also have the freedom to NOT apply. Maybe they have had better experiences with candidates from top tier universities. Remember getting into most tier 1 colleges is itself difficult and only top talent make it. Also get better academic infrastructure, exposure to alumni networks, etc. So there are high chances they will do well. 
  
 Doesn’t mean that candidates from non-tier1 universities can’t excel. Some can be equally good or even better. Maybe these guys don’t want to take a chance with this role.

Genuinely curious! Like I graduated about 4 years ago from an NIT and started with 40k pm for an analytics role, now everyone I see is earning atleast 12lpa after tax?

How is every person here / on reddit earning 1-1.5lpm as a fresher? Have the entry level salaries increased ?

Came across a scenario multiple times while searching for senior engineer jobs. I felt that in majority of the cases if the interviewer was from IIT, no matter how much experienced they are they always have a particular style of putting you down during coding or system design type of interviews where they have high acceptance to bookish answer rather than having an open mind to other solutions which can be discussed in details and probably has a far more chances of evaluating a candidate on core thinking and logical skills rather. What do you think? Have you also faced similar scenario?

So obviously I prepared for jee, joined coaching etc and didn't perform well in jee adv but was able to get a decent new Delhi college (one of those popular ones). The middle months after jee and before college started were a bit sad, but I was able to fit in well in my first year itself. Few of my classmates from school/coaching got into iits but I lost touch with them, but I remember they were humble and normal when I studied with them. But in my college years, when I attended fests or met with any iit peeps in some competitions or stuff, there was always a strong ego vibe coming from them, even when I met up with a coaching classmate who was humble in the beginning, was totally changed after being in iit. And like, I can understand having some ego if you've achieved something materialistic like getting a big job. But why do the ones who have achieved literally nothing in iits also have so much ego?? For nothing literally. I've never met a humble iit student who has  not mentioned 'iit' in every second sentence.

Mostly referring to btechs here, cuz the mtechs/PhDs still feel fine and welcoming.
I fr thought all these feelings might be because of some inner dissatisfaction that I didn't get into iit. But even after passing out college, getting a good job and seeing things from a neutral perspective,they still feel the same.

I blame parents for this. Not that coaching centres are saints, they suck the life out of students by making them study 24/7 but the reason that child is in coaching centre is because parents put him/her there.

And every suicide letter I have read from students mentions that they couldn't fulfil parents expectations.

They are the reason their child is in that condition, just because they want to brag and seek validation  from so called society that their child is a prodigy (and want to establish that they are the creator of this prodigy) who went to medical/IIT. And if the child doesn't act acc. to their expectations, they start gaslighting them "We gave you birth" "Maa baap bhagwan ka roop hote hai how dare you blame us Or don't listen to us" 
I once watched a movie (don't remember the name) where actress says "As parent we determine if our child needs tuition classes but at same time we fail to know if he/she needs therapy"

Who do you think is to be blamed? 

Also parents on GV don't push your child if he doesn't want to fly, thinking he has wings, he may fall to death.

The root cause of all this is overpopulation and a shortage of jobs. Coaching centers and tough parenting only exist as a consequence of this

Does ragging of such scale where the seniors time and again disrespect the juniors and humiliate them really happens at top B-Schools( i m talking about IIM A,B,C,L,K,I, FMS, XLRI etc) l.

I am from one of an old IIT and haven't faced any ragging or harrasment from seniors over here apart from the freshers party where the seniors themselves told that if you are not comfortable then you can leave. Not one incident after that. Instead it has been a total opposite scenario and the seniors are too helpful here in a variety of ways. I have friends in IIT Bombay, Kanpur and Delhi and they too told me the same thing.

I was very surprised and astonished when I found out that kids age 18 years old aren't engaged in ragging at IITs but adults age 23 years+ doing their MBAs are doing the same at IIMs.

PS: I plan to pursue an MBA from an IIM in the future but such incidents are a big turn off for me hence I wanted to know the reality.

I have a question which was popping since long in my mind , there are many people who go for higher studies abroad in b-schools like LBS INSEAD HEC PARIS, or ivy league at USA or some for MS CS in good colleges , After working for few years with careful financial planning and saving many of them come back to India as they have old age parents, friends and family here . Do these b-schools people get same preference as someone from IIM BLACKIS/FMS/ISB  OR as someone from IITs/Nits for higher positions based on performance or in other general things, if they are continuing job here rather going for some business/startups???

Really sad to hear news coming for Kota .. and there are many more such cases in India .. I am not directly affected nor my extended family for now .. But I think the problem they are trying to fix is - Parents should not put to much pressure.. Whereas I think the problem is 1)Kids are not taught how to handle pressure 2) they are not given assurance that if you fail no problem we are there 3) Parents putting too much pressure by putting in all life savings  or trying to fulfil they own desires 
Any other inputs to save lives of families being effected pls add . 
Unless we define the right problem - we cannot hope for solutions
