All the B-school grads have a question...is getting into IIM to get into the PM role justified?

What is the future scope of the PM job role...will it still be relevant after 10 years, Is going to IIMs spending close to 25 lakhs in this economy to get into a PM job role justified?? Context: I know many people will say you don't need IIM to break into PM, But considering I'm a 25 Male, from tier 3 college...currently working as a product designer with 8 lpa...so I think the only way to reach 25-30 lpa in hand by 28 is by joining IIMs

As a hiring manager, I honestly don't know what value add a recent passout with nil experience could bring to PM role versus someone with 4-5 years of experience in Ops+PM (From what I see, I'm assuming both would come at approx 25-30L package).

At work, I'm currently dealing with Program Managers who are 1 year out of B-School who have no clue of business but run programs.

Hey, you mentioned you are a product designer. I'm trying to break into ux. Can you tell me the salary scope in this field? Also what do you think is the future of ux?

Not necessary but desirable (as they write in JD) 😂

My honest advice to you is to make a switch to good product company and build out your craft. Invest your free time in mentoring folks, working on side projects, networking and some basic courses. Money will follow.

I'm from a Tier 2 B-School. I get paid on par or more than what some Tier-1 B-School grads get paid. The curve will catch up, maybe not so quickly, that's all.

Optimize as much as possible for good company, role, relationships and mentorship in your first 10 years.
