Amazon tyrany continues

I am a L4 manager in amazon. My entire team has been asked to go, now i am concerned about my carrer. It ia so sad that our Indian government doesn't support us. My future is now uncertain. I wish we had someone to stand up for us.

First of all government can't do shit. I know you are a European law loving crazyhead since layoffs in Europe are avoided to due to pro-employee laws. But I want you to remember that the current layoff environment where companies struggled to layoff in Europe hasn't gone unnoticed by companies. If companies feel that pro-employee laws are too strict, they will simply close their European offices and open shops in Eastern/African/Middle Eastern/South American nations. Just because there is a law does not mean that companies will keep on following it. And as it is European offices are some of the most low ROI centres of development due to so many holidays/relaxed work culture/zero impact projects. Europe is fucked unless Europe resorts to war against Africa/East/Middle East/South America.

I agree

This isn’t that simple let me tell you why

  1. EU zone is a huge USD 15- 16 Tn. Economy 5X of India
  2. To serve these customer, you need local offices (either legally or makes more business sense)
  3. As firms have to serve these customer the cannot outsource all their operations to countries with lax labour laws
  4. Talent quality is EU is high 1. Because of top universities 2. Stricter labour laws ensure attract high quality talent that wants to work in less stressful economies.
  5. Lower Taxation: Luxembourg, Ireland offer great tax benefits to corporates, helping them offset some of the labour law related costs

I agree on having some protections in place by government. Like how u Europe has

That would scare companies from setting up in India. I feel the major attraction for major companies is that they can exploit Indian talent

It's not them exploiting us, it's us exploiting us imo. When you have so many consultancies charging a good price for an employee (to eu clients) and handing out peanuts to the employees themselves (which makes sense given their low barrier of entry), you can understand why EU companies may think of us as cheap labor.

If consultancies increased their bars and also base pay, it'd attract good quality folks and maybe this stigma would be dissolved for good, atleast a big part of it.

Honestly, why are so many posts about Government help or unionbazi?

You want the government or union benefit of not being fired go join a government job or a union job which will pay you 1/10th of what Amazon would be paying.

People posting everywhere about 40-50 lakhs at 4-5 yrs work ex and then crying when the company realises that this money was not justified and they can run fine without spending a certain amount on such salaries.

Is it that all of us are this entitled or we have just become mentally weak getting paid shitloads over the last 2-3 years not realising that maybe we are not doing as much hardwork as the money we are getting.

Please dont give senseless comments, while i know you are uneducated let me just give you some information. We are taxed at 30 % and we don't evan get unemployment insurance unlike other countries. Government jobs have a lot of other perks as well. Humbly request atleast have some common sense when u comment.

BouncyBiscuit

Because we are taxed at 30% doesn’t mean the govt. will ask a large company to keep paying high salaries and increase their losses. Are you saying the taxpayers should bail you out and pay amazon the difference to pay salaries?

And please be honest. There is a reason you and I havent gone and worked for a govt job. If the perks were so good give up an amazon salary and take the low salary+perks as your job. I doubt someone who can qualify for amazon cant get the same work ex job in a govt department. Using words like uneducated and senseless in the heat of the moment won’t change facts. The goverment and tax payers dont owe anyone in a private job zilch.

A similar comparison can be a series A startup vs TCS. Someone has higher job security in tcs and a lower pay. A high salary high risk series A employee getting fired cant cry for the govt to give him job security upon getting fired.
