I lead a team of 8, and I'm the one going for war most of the times representing my team.

If there is an internal conflict within my team I take those involved for a 1:1 and listen out their versions fully. Then I decide on whether they both should operate on the same task or not. I convince the one whose weightage and relevance is relatively lesser to give up on that issue and give them something bigger which they aspire for when time comes. I try to keep them away from possible overlaps if the tensions are high and slowly as time passes they get along and operate and things heal by themselves.

In cases where some random kid from another team wants to poke and rub my team on the wrong side, I let my team ignore it until the kid brings his parents (in this case putting their manager in CC and escalating it on email). Their manager and I get on a 1:1 like adults and sort it out.

If the other team's manager tries to take advantage of any situation with my kids, that's when I go full rogue. Even if it's in front of a mid-sized forum. I protect my team at all costs, no matter how crappy things are between us.

I love how you say ‘My Kids, My team’. That’s how a leader should be. My thumb rule: Never throw your team under the bus. All the heat just goes through the lead which the team is not even aware of! I hope they recognise the same.

I certified in this

The whole point is not to achieve overnight but to be empathetic, patience for listening to others and remain unbiased with a positive attitude to communicate on the same.

By hearing the other person and remaining non-judgmental, one shows willingness to talk openly and resolve it.

The hardest part for most Indians that I have seen is lack of patience and never taking things personally because everyone wants to be correct and feel validated while not being defensive so it's hard to display that.

Workplace is no place for conflicts.
I step back when I see one coming.
