Just need some overview about Mumbai
So, i might get an opportunity at mumbai & the closest areas are worli, lower parel, mahalaxmi etc. I need some clarity about the living conditions there since i've heard that area is one of the most expensive ones in Mumbai. Now, given as to how bad traffic is, i don't want to find place which is too far from office. If anyone could give me an overview of how to settle there. Also, i've asked for 14-15 as base along with relocation help as well from the company, lets see what they have to say about that. Is that a good salary? (previous was 10+1) how is life there at Mumbai basically? professionally, personally, socially TIA
Your thought process is spot on. Stay as close to your place of work as you can afford.
Commuting in Mumbai is possible but expensive (time & energy suck).
Budget ~4L a year only for rent, sharing an apartment - typically a 2BHK. There are no PG / CoLiving options in Mumbai.
What you save in commuting, will go in rent but you'll be happier because you've saved time and effort.
Finally - ask for more money. I am not sure of the role / experience but more does not hurt. Tell them you've asked around and need a little more to ensure life is comfortable in Mumbai.
To answer your second question -
Professionally Mumbai is by far the most rewarding place in India. You'll learn more working in Mumbai than in any other town.
Socially - #1 bar none. Safe 24x7 and loads of options to engage in what you like.
Personally - quality of life is decent (could be better in terms of space, etc). It's the original cosmopolitan city - so you have a choice of what people you engage with too. The city may seem a little curt and cut 'n dry at beginning but you'll learn to enjoy it.

the areas you mentioned are very posh areas and finding a room there will be expensive and will cost around 25k+ easily for a single room and don't forget the deposit(1L+ for 2 bhk) and brokerage( usually 1 months rent).
if you're asking for 15 base, you can survive although you will have little savings but its enough to live a comfortable lifestyle there.
socially there's a lot of things to do, events keep happening

Dont take it. Mumbai is unlivable (blore is not that great either). it doesnt matter how much they pay. Life in Mumbai is just not worth it.

Good rooms for 1 will cost around 30-40 K minimum.
+ you will essentially pay 13 months rent as 1 month rent will go to Broker.
3-4 K for maid.
Help me understand, relocation means just travelling for the first time and initial stay until you find a room or the whole rent coverage?
1. Mumbai has one of the bests public transport, but it's crowdy and would take some time to understand it. Hence get a room within 30mins proximity of your office.
2. Areas you mentioned are expensive and posh. But you can find a room easily. There's no thing like PG here so either you need to share it with other flatmates or live on your own.
3. Lifestyle: everyone's is in hurry for some reason. You'd hardly find any Mumbaikar walking at normal pace. But it's safe. You can travel alone even at 2am and be safe, even if you're a woman.
There are a lot of cafes, bar, restaurants where you are planning to live. There's a plethora of variety of Street food options as well.
