Enhancing Passenger Safety with OTP-Based Ride Completion

Passenger safety is paramount in ride-sharing services like Rapido and Uber. I propose introducing an OTP-based confirmation for ride completion, especially for female passengers. This feature would ensure that rides cannot be marked as complete without the passenger’s explicit consent, adding an essential layer of security and accountability.

Such a feature could set a new standard for safety and trust in the ride-sharing industry.

I’d love to hear your thoughts—should platforms implement this for a safer experience? Let’s make commuting better for everyone!

What if the driver overpowers me and does the OTP completion himself? What if passengers just forget completing OTP? People aren't active on the app after their rides. There will be lot of false alarms.

The current feature where you share your ride details with your trusted someone is already solving it IMO. Pervert drivers know that the passenger isn't alone and being monitored, that's a deterrent enough.

Also, there's a Karnataka police app that you can have on your phone. Twitter says that the police are responsive.

The current ride-sharing features primarily track and ensure passenger safety only until the ride is marked as complete. Once the ride ends, the system assumes the trip has concluded without verifying passenger confirmation. This creates a gap where the driver could end the ride prematurely or without the passenger’s explicit acknowledgment.

It would became an inconvenience/ time waster during the day and even at nights, once you are at your destination you would want to leave a strangers car faster not slower. People using cash know how uncomfortable it is to wait and argue for change post trip completion. Faster in Faster out seems the best way.
