eSOPs of an IPO-bound company

Those of you who have worked for a company that later got an IPO, how much did you gain? How many years before the IPO did your shares start vesting?

Was it life changing?

Asking this because there are some companies that try to keep employees for slightly longer (or offering less fixed components) by claiming that their IPO is coming soon.

Did not have many shares when we went public and listed at peak valuation.

Now have a decent number of shares but valuation is lower.

Best to sell immediately if there’s no lock-in IMO, but YMMV. The “life changing” aspect will always be based on luck.
