Google lays off more employees and moves some roles to other countries
Covid charity hiring and Diversity hiring ate google from inside just in 3 years. 🥲
Ruth porat is the worst thing to have happened at Google. Many people rightly criticize Sundar Pichai for mismanagement, for messing up the culture, making Google play catchup in AI, but Ruth almost always avoids criticism despite being equally responsible. She has turned what was once highly innovative company to the shell of the former shelf by gutting the funding for key projects, poor acquisitions, etc.
Mismanagement and competency (lack thereof) in executive positions inside Google is so bad that it's unbelievable. I am part of a smallish org where employees can easily observe the leadership up close. In our team, we have some talented superstars researchers from academia, and greatly educated engineers (it's ML related), but our "leadership" has no idea about the field she's in and is considered as a joke. There was an acquisition by this "leadership" that turned out to be a complete fraud (that product was seriously fake) and the whole investment got written off, not to mention they keep changing the product line going from a potentially "disruptive" product to a "half baked" system integrator work that doesn't work and we keep acquiring random companies that just doesn't bring much to the table. Now our employees in thie org are thinking that whole org wouldn't exist this time next year as it's getting so bad.
Which org?
Ex Googler here You're bang on. But I think Sundar and MOST of the SVPs are just too fucking soft.
I think somehow the culture pushed up the wrong behaviors to the top, and not aggression. Ultimately, you need aggression to win. FFS my RSUs have not gone up one bit since I had received them.
Quality over quantity. Diversity will kill your org. People who built top products would never have been able to build these stuffs if they cared they/them he/she and blaah blaah. It should not matter who you are if you are capable enough you will perform. Not this diversity woke nonsense.
I wrote something similar on another post and it got flagged and deleted.
Fully agreed with you. Work with people you are best comfortable with
Come India, we welcome you 🙏🏻
Thank you Modi ji😄
Reddit is already seething about muh hiring in India. Hope all companies expand business here in some capacity
"Several teams across Google's finance and real estate units have been affected, according to two current employees, who said staff had been informed of the cuts this week. One said that the affected teams in finance include Google's Treasury, Business Services, and Revenue Cash Operations teams. It's unclear if other parts of the company are affected or how many roles have been cut. One current employee said the changes were "pretty large-scale" and that some roles are being moved abroad. According to a person who saw the email, Google's finance chief Ruth Porat sent an email to staff announcing that Google would build out its "growth hubs" in locations such as Bangalore, Mexico City, and Dublin as part of the restructuring. A Google spokesperson confirmed the cuts but declined to elaborate on the number of affected staff. They said that a small percentage of the roles will move to other offices in the US and abroad where Google is putting more investment, including India, Dublin, and Atlanta."
Why leave Hyderabad🥲😄
Now that there is no KTR to seek FDI and liaise with the companies, many companies will simply stick with Bangalore
A lot of these jobs will move to cheaper countries, they won’t be completely scraped. India should benefit
