Right amount of ESOPs
As a software engineer with 1.5yrs of experience, how much ESOPs shall I ask from a Seed funded startup. I am here since initial days of company.
Is it a certain percentage of valuation? What's the market standard?
How much ESOP's (percentage) ideally someone should hold or ask for while joining a 2-3yr old Early Stage Startup with valuation of around 25cr for the Following Positions?
Cto should take 3-6%; director at 0.5-1.5%
What about Tech Lead & Head of Technology?
Not sure. Titles become very ‘vague’ at early stages especially lead/head. A GPM equivalent should probably get 0.2-0.4%. But founders are very stingy in giving away equity at early stages.
Typically reserve a higher set for leadership hires during seed stage, and then hope valuation grows to give lower% to mid level. Junior levels don’t get esops

Can you tell in percentages % (Holding in Company)
percentage = amount/valuation (25cr)
Standard ESOP pool size 10-15% (2.5-3.75cr)
Standard ESoP pool is 10 to 15% I believe: general employes (founding or early): 0.1 to 0.15 % Then: 0.2 to 0.5% 0.25 to 1% 1 to 2% 1 to 5 % Depend on the importance, involvement and expertise.
