M, 21 year old, recently graduated with BBA (2021-24)
I was always a curious person and even though I'm from non-tech background, I often tinkered with tech.
During my college times, I was freelancing as video editor for a YouTube channel where I also had to create thumbnails so there I learned graphic designing as well.
By the end of college, I was in depth with graphic design and started exploring UI/UX as well. Somewhere here I found out about Product Management and all the buzz it had. It was like a match for me, I had frontend knowledge and somewhat tech knowledge; added to that, coming from the management domain, it sounded like a perfect choice.
Took an online course on PM, created a good portfolio but we all know how the job market turned out in 2024-25. 6 months after completing my graduation and I was still jobless, applying to PM internships and analyst roles. Things got worse for my mental health with no jobs, I engulfed my ego and started applying for any jobs.
Just 1 month back I got an internship at a startup in founder's office where I am mostly doing operational tasks along with a little bit of everything (calls, marketing, lil but graphic designing).
I love the workplace and my manager but one of the things that bites me is what am I even doing, I always question how will me career look like after 5 to 10 years down the line.
Anyone who has worked in similar roles, any ray of hope or guiding principles that you can share with me and also people with high YOE please let me know should I bother switching to PM roles or stick with what I am doing. I have heard pretty sketchy things about the state of product management in India rn.
