Karnataka IT Firms Propose 14-Hour Workday, Employees Fume

  • IT firms in Karnataka have proposed extending employee working hours to 14 hours a day, sparking severe opposition from employees.
  • The Karnataka State IT/ITeS Employees Union (KITU) has strongly resisted the proposal, citing health issues and potential layoffs.
  • The state government is considering amending the Karnataka Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1961, to accommodate this proposal.
  • KITU warns that the amendment will reduce the number of working shifts, resulting in one-third of the workforce losing their jobs.
  • The union urges the government to reconsider, highlighting the negative impact on employees' mental and physical health.

Best thing imo. Companies will migrate to other welcoming cities such as Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, Gurgaon, Noida, Mohali making it a pleasurable experience for the rest of us. The govt is hell bent on making sure things happen for the worst. Then they will cry foul against the central govt.

Dude wtf? think. It's a big win for companies, they can exploit employees. Also those companies who value WLB can ignore this 14hr shift. You are blinded by your hatred, which has fried your brain.

With upto 100% reservations for Kannadigas, what’s the issue? Didn’t they themselves wanted to work and remove the northies? 🤣

Yeah kannadigas, can work on it and make private sector similar to govt sector. Now they initiated kannadigas for 75% reservations and later they initiate for SC/ST's reservations for 50%
Will it work with new upcoming policies posted by government.

In Bangalore or other cities giving job to talent but not to based on religion. Already Indian govt not providing such scope so Indians are moving to aboard.

Many can drivers working for IT companies do long shifts. They sleep in the car, shower in the office premises and practically live out of their vehicles. They stay in blr for about 3 months and then take 2 week break and go home. Oil &gas industry does this to. People work for 21 days continuously. They stay in the oil rigs and work in 6/8 hr shifts. Marine engineer do it. They stay in the ocean for y/8 months and then go home for 3 months.

iT industry can't copy oil and gas or marine. As they have to offer living quarters. They can however copy the cab model. There is no point in wasting 3 hrs a day in traffic 2 hrs a day in preparing to the office.

Living Quarters!! In Bangalore??? What will they pay to employees then... All the CTC will be spent in renting the accomodation 😂

i’m still mad at the fact, that they won’t be implementing that 75% local peoples job policy and 50% of management….i wish they should implement 14 hour work shift atleast!!!
