Dhobi Ghat and Laapataa Ladies have both been very critically acclaimed. I don't understand if it is a competence issue or a intent issue in Indian filmamkers that they don't make good cinema.

Both. Indian filmmakers don't get money from producers for innovative scripts. That breeds more of the usual idiotic movie makers who don't care about the craft, only money.

I already believe (and follow) in the ideology the movie talks about. It was just a one time okay watch for me. Kudos for the makers, but not really wowed by the film
