MBA worth it considring my profile?
Hi folks, I need guidance on pursuing MBA in India.
Background - I am a Product Manager with 2.5 yrs experience, btech from an OLD NIT, with current CTC around 18 LPA.
I scored 99.3%ile this year in CAT, and has very less probability of getting BLACKI (old IIMs)
My question - Is it worth doing an MBA in long term from tier 1.5 colleges considering my Background, current CTC and I plan to stick in Product Management post MBA.
Would appreciate answers from both MBA grads and those who decided against doing it.

Lots of questions -
What's your background
Family background
Have you quit
Do you have it in you to keep working and try for one more year
Have you considered other 1 year MBA courses that take CAT scores
Your salary is at a range where you can get a good jump from good colleges.
If you're someone who is obsessed with BLACKI and image conscious. Wait.
I wasn't willing to drop a year. Felt that I had business in my blood. Joined a tier 1.5 B-School. Thrived there and got a Day 0 placement with the 2nd company on campus with the second highest salary.
You still have many such colleges still accessible at this percentile.
10 years down the line, I probably make more money than IIM grads of my batch/year.
In hindsight, there are times that I think that I should have waited just for the tag. But then, everything that I've done till now would be so drastically different and hence would not want to change anything about those formative years...
Ultimately your call.

Thanks for your inputs. I come from a upper middle class family, and I don't need to send money to my parents.
I am still working, and I don't want to spend another year for CAT. Personally the work I do as a PM, I feel CAT studies are very inefficient and plan on investing that time into building a Product of my own.
I am not obsessed with a brand, but my only two concerns are -
-
What if I don't get placed as a PM post MBA, I understand college placements aren’t generally in our control, but this can hamper my growth as PM in long term
-
What if for any reason (personal or economic), I land up with not so good job (let's say around 30LPA) post MBA, then it wouldn't make much sense for me interms of ROI and salary growth.

TLDR: Not worth it for you unless abroad

Staff PM here. My 2 cents would be to ignore IIMs if you want to comeback to product management. Since you're not looking to change industries, you can consider working for another couple of years and opt for 1 year MBA from ISB or from an institute like JEC or INSEAD. Getting PM post-MBA wouldn't be a challenge considering your prior work-ex.

Won't be joining any college this year. Will tey for Executive MBA or Foreign MBA in couple of years.

Which schools are you considering then?

Given your background, don’t go for non tier 1 college. And yes, MBA is worth doing at this point of your career.
Good post MBA PM roles are available on certain campuses like ISB, old IIMs, JBIMS. Going for tier 1.5 won’t give you that opportunity.
Perhaps evaluate ISB or M7 programs. They will be more suitable given your profile and career inclination.

Nah, just simple NO. Get a FAANG job, work a while, stand out, save up, and then start something on the side.

Maybe a little bit
