Need Career Advice
Hi everyone,
I’d love some guidance on a career crossroads I’m facing. Here's a quick background about me:
I have 5.5 years of experience in compliance, regulatory affairs, and internal audit, with a few short stints in strategy at a startup.
I hold a BSc from a reputed (though considered tier 2) college, comparable to institutions like St. Stephen's or Hindu College.
I currently earn around 33 LPA, and while I’m not chasing the best career, I value decent money, work-life balance, and steady growth.
I found strategy roles very engaging and fulfilling, but the work-life balance in that domain was challenging, which made me step away. If I were to pursue an MBA, I’d want to return to strategy roles, but the balance question keeps me thinking. On the other hand, I don’t dislike my current domain and appreciate the balance it offers, though I’m worried about future stagnation.
Lately, I’ve also noticed that most interview calls I get end up in rejection, with the feedback being that my current salary is high for my qualifications.
So, I’m at a crossroads:
-
How are strategy roles in terms of work-life balance? Do they get better with experience?
-
Should I pursue an MBA and aim for strategy again, or stick to my current field and explore certifications like the CIA?
-
Would staying the course in my current domain still allow for meaningful growth?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been in a similar situation or has insights into what might work best.
Thanks in advance for your advice! 😊

Strategy roles often improve work-life balance as you gain experience and seniority, but early career demands can be intense. Pursuing an MBA could help you transition back into strategy roles with higher credibility and growth potential. However, if you value stability, certifications like the CIA , can deepen your expertise in compliance and unlock leadership roles. You should assess your long-term priorities , if work-life balance and steady growth matter more, enhancing your current domain might be the better path for you.
All the best.
