PAN Card before interview.

Has any recruiter asked you to share PAN number before even scheduling interviews? I recently got a call from Physics Wallah recruiter and after exchanging common information she demanded PAN number to which at first I refused then told her I’ll share over email. I said that so that I could check if she is not a scammer. I also asked her why it is necessary? To which she provided generic BS(to put into portal, big companies also ask this). Verified from truecaller and linkedin that she is indeed genuine. But anyways I didn’t feel comfortable to share a sensitive government ID before even having interviews. I told her my reasons and she rudely said they won’t be able to proceed further and I said no problem!

Request everyone to refrain from these practices otherwise this will become a norm. You don’t know in whose hand your ID will go and how and where they will store this info. Cut the BS and just say no.

Sad but as said earlier India doesn't have any restrictive policies and Indian HRs are dumb, stupid and evil.

Godrej and some other companies have it their portal. Won't let you proceed without that

Sharing data via portal is different scenario, but sending it over informal channels like WhatsApp or LinkedIn does sound a little questionable. Official e-mail ID is still okay for some cases like for international offers, demanding a passport sounds plausible.
