Please evaluate my Google L3 offer

Hey folks, looking for some candid advice.

I'm currently at Walmart with 33 LPA fixed + 12 L worth of stocks vesting over 4 years, though heavily backloaded. I've been here 1 year 10 months, but honestly, the team feels like a dead-end in terms of growth or visibility.

Google L3 offer: •22 LPA base •3L joining bonus (1st year) •3 L performance bonus (fixed) •38 L in stocks over 4 years (with 15L in Year 1)

makes Year 1 comp 43 LPA.

I have 4.5 YOE, so joining as L3 feels like a step back, but I'm seriously considering it for the brand and potential shot at L4 promotion later.

Would love to hear thoughts from anyone who's been in a similar boat or made this switch. Is it worth the reset?

Thanks in advance!

Simply don’t join. It will take another 3 years to reach at 33 if we consider 10% hike in each year.
In Walmart, you will get stocks on every year for next 3 years. So even if consider 12 lakh of stocks every year then in 4 years, vesting amount will be 36 lakhs (4+8+12+12). Also performance bonus is 6.6 lakh (20% of 33) . So it’s not a wise decision to join at this offer.

Google stocks are front loaded and promotion will take 2 years. Consider 0-5% hike which was for majority of employees at Google, atleast we had 3-10% at Walmart also consider how close are you for promotion at Walmart. Google is definitely a better brand name but in this economy you need to consider your connections and perception within any company for growth.

I know someone who joined at L4 with just 3 years of experience. He now has 6 years of experience, and his manager is already planning to recommend him for an L5 promotion next year. He’s known for excessive flattery toward his manager, which seems to be working in his favor.

So, my two cents: I’d decline the offer—it doesn’t seem worth it.

Strictly from a learning point it makes sense. If you are looking for growth please avoid. Please note that ~23L base is a hard upper limit for L3. So unless you are getting promoted to L4, your base won't increase and you might get 0% pay hike.

Promotions from L3-> L4 vary a lot between orgs. But it's difficult to get it within 2 years.

I wouldn’t join for such a downlevel being honest. Did they intentionally downlevel you or you had applied for L3 only. I would better get some other offer for high salary and then try to switch back to google in a year
