I was asked to interview for IPAC when it was hardly 2-3 years old. Didn't know anything about it or politics in general, so didn't go for it.

What kind of background should I come from and what kind of roles should I look at?
As an aside, IPAC lies on the other end of the political divide and commits numerous undemocratic practices in cahoots with various state governments, so I might have to go for the alternatives.
Joined one a couple of months back. First job for me. The pay is surprisingly good. The average age is quite low and the field is relatively new so there is progress to be made. The work hours for me are pretty chill but I've seen it getting hectic for some of my colleagues.

What is your present role? What is your educational background? And how did you land this opportunity?
Tier 1 college grad: think top IITs/IISc etc.
Gave UPSC interview. This is my first job. Role: consultant. How did I land here? LinkedIn and alumni networks.
I have worked in IPAC for 1.5 months.
Shit wlb.
Work even in weekends
Shit pay( inspite of one being from IITs)
Low level job.
No transferable skills.
No decent exits.
Don't go if you don't want to waste your time.
I had spoken to one of the political consulting firms. I think you’d gain a lot if you’re interested in working in public sector in the future etc. But it comes with its own challenges like extremely long hours, based in smaller cities- often staying in hotels for weeks away from family and it’s almost always project based (state/centre elections)
The pay isn’t particularly high either so takes away that motivation too.

The firm I spoke to had more operational role at that time at various levels (associate, consultants etc) but there are data crunching roles as well.

You have ample of established players in pol Consulting now. Pay will always be a problem as it is more people driven. Its fun for a short stint.
