Recently updated the GV app and noticed a significant change in its UX/UI. The “Pops,” which was previously the default feature on the hero section, has now been moved and hidden under the “Change” option in the Feed Widget. This shift raises some questions about the design and user experience.
To access Pops now, users must click on “Change” to select their feed preference (Salaries, News, or Pops). However, the feed itself isn’t dynamic, its content remains static. News cards you’ve already read or salary data you’ve seen stay unchanged until updated, which contradicts the concept of a “live feed.” Pops, on the other hand, offered real-time content, new Pops appeared instantly at the top of the feed, maintaining user engagement.
The “Salaries” and “News” options already exist in the bottom navigation bar. Including these options again in the Feed Widget feels redundant and complicates the interface without adding substantial value.
Moving Pops into a nested option forces users like me to explore and guess the new location. Such changes in navigation require coach marks, or a brief tutorial to guide. Everything is guesswork here.
I think the design choice indicates an attempt to shift focus away from Pops to other features, possibly due to reduced traction or concerns about content quality. Still if that’s the case, the team should communicate clearly about new location of a feature rather than burying it under additional layers.
To the GV team: Product decisions should always prioritize clarity and user intent. While experimentation is vital, substantial changes require clear communication to avoid confusing loyal users like me.
