Recently Laid Off – Need Guidance on Documents, Severance Pay, and Next Steps

Hi everyone,

I was recently laid off from my job and I’m trying to understand what all I need to take care of before I formally exit. I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have been through a similar situation.

This was first job so I don't know what all need to be collected? Exp - 3 Years Role - Support Role Learning- Stuck in support role caused no learning. Facing issues in cracking interview due to lack of skillset.

Thinking to take a break for 6 month and upskill & comeback again. Whats your suggestions?

Or if any one can provide referals? It would be helpful for me

Here are my main questions:

  1. What documents is needed from company before my last working day?

  2. How much severance pay should i get?

  3. What all final settlements should I ensure are included? (unused leaves, bonuses, etc.)

  4. Any checklist or exit letter/ resignation letter I should ask for?

5.can I send email of internal certification that i done is in company laptop to my personal email?

Any further things i need to collect from company?

I’d be really grateful for any insights, tips, or even personal stories you’re willing to share. Thank you in advance!

Experience Letter, Previous Increment/Hike letter, original Offer letter, Previous 3-4 months Payslips, Full and Final settlement financial doc- this comes a few weeks after leaving. The company HR will tell you when they will give the experience letter- some organisations give on the last working day, but many give a few days later, or even a few weeks later.

Severance- no idea. But as part of full and final settlement, you should get unused Paid leaves worth of money (leave encashments). For more specific detail about timelines, you should contact your HR.
