Safe option to invest as of now, apart from FDs.

I have to invest some money for 1-2 years, so according to the current market scenario, what and all would be the safe option, apart from FD to get a better return.

SIPs

  • Index funds (since they are down)
  • Manufacturing/capex focused companies should be good play (electrical and derived cos, capex is consistent with last year; gov. Is consolidating and trying to keep consistency as per budget)
  • pharma/tech
  • emerging small cap from a reputed fund house: canara robeco, dsp, motilal oswal, hdfc are generally ok.
  • avoid high exp. ratios, and go for direct+growth fund.
  • two large cap blue chips funds

Over a two year period, barring extreme events, this should give you minimum of FD level returns if you deploy a good sum right now(given corrections and drawdown scenario), with lot of upside if you are smart and consistent on it.
