I don't understand EV It seems a great move to move away from depleting fossil fuels (petrol, diesel, gas) and move towards electricity. But the production of electricity is also derived from resources; coal accounts for the majority of the supply in India.

There is also an aspect to not think from environment pov.

  1. EVs are cheaper to run- 1rs per km, add service- it would be 2 to 4rs per km tops. ICE vehicles cost 15-16 RS per km

  2. Hate to admit this, being a manual petrol head but EVs are fun to drive as well. Oh the pull from 0 to 60, the acceleration.

  3. Relatively better drive- silent car, less vibration, better ride.

Back to environmental aspects- yes right now electricity is majorly driven by coal, but there are alternative sources for that and they are growing. I know a couple of folks who have solar power installed, running cost is zero for them, except for maintenance and usual upfront cost of solar setup.

Even if an EV runs on coal generated electricity, it is still more efficient than an ICE because power plants are more efficient than IC engines.
