Tier 1 IIT NIT Tag privilege

When we hear a person is from X IIT or NIT,we think they are smart. Irrespective of how he performed after he came into IT field or any field, he will still be treated on the top. His tag is for his life time. Jo diktha hain vo biktha hain as what people say, If you see he's from IIT or NIT, you will hire him. I was thinking this is not the case if you work hard you can beat them, intelligence is what matters etc etc all this is bull shit. Get a good IIT/NIT tag and you will be life time settled. Every jump you make people will see ur degree college subconsciously value you if you are from tier 1.

Considering all this , since this is case with colleges, i feel if you are from google, Microsoft or such big tech other companies will blindly have faith in you. I mean again sane logic.

My question - To have stable IT job, should i try to first get into big tech, and then even if i get laid off i feel i will be valued for my ex Company and then i can grab new offer.

Should i do it ?!!! Btw im 25M fed up with this competition and i need some stability in life. Forgive me for English, its 12:28AM and these thoughts are disturbing me.

As a fellow NITian, I can say that the tag does add some default value but it doesn't act like a wildcard for all opportunity doors. We too need to prove our skills and abilities at each and every point. It's just that the JEE grind helps us lift our hard work benchmarks as compared to folks who started hard work later in life.

I get your point and i agree that, it might get an edge in shortlisting and that surely is because of the brand tag but again there's a reason that the brand value is sustained and that is linked with the JEE grind.

Totally agree from tier 2 and made some amazing contributions to my company. my IITian colleague is now claiming those in his resume and has a pipeline of recruiters lining up whereas I’m struggling to get a single call. Feel sad coaching my IITian colleague to parrot out my work

Yeah makes sense, struggling with these tag holders. Heard it’s same with other fields as well eg CA

My roommate was from IIT and he knew nothing apart from work nor he had any hobby. After seeing him I realized normal people are much more happy in thier life.

Tier 3 college education struggle

As someone from a tier-3 college, is it possible for me to bag a good job and slowly climb the ladder and make 30L, 40L like some of you do?

Is this IIT branding so needed even today to get a job at top companies?

I have huge regrets ...

Why do many IITians do dick measuring contest during interviews?

Came across a scenario multiple times while searching for senior engineer jobs. I felt that in majority of the cases if the interviewer was from IIT, no matter how much experienced they are they always have a particular style of putting ...
