VP Product at Zepto with only 5 yrs of Product Exp?

Can anyone at Zepto spill tea on this?

A guy has recently joined Zepto with the VP Title and has roughly 5 yrs of exp in product. If this is real then he has really leapfrogged much ahead than several senior people.

Is this for real? Or is he just inflating the title on LinkedIn?

There are 2 people like this at Zepto, both of whom have VP title despite only having 5 yrs of experience- because they cracked an insane problem and generated millions in downstream for Zomato and Blinkit (separately). They have bucked the trend, most of our VPs hired in last 12 months have been domain experienced for 12+ yrs.

So basically this guy is the real deal.

Him And the quant guy.

Simply title inflation. An actual VP at a big or even mid sized company has a big charter to handle and few group PMs, reporting to him/her. These Group PMs then have Lead PM, Senior PMs, PM and APM under them.

Don't ever take a startup title seriously, even I am called a senior here xD

But someone mentioned below that he has actually cracked an insane problem and hence he got such a title.

Yes, he could have cracked a problem and led to increase in revenue but does that make him good enough to be a VP of product? I mean the company had to reward him in some way for doing great work and title inflation with a bit of hike is easy way out.

But if he quit his job went to some other company, would he still become a VP or even get interviewed for a VP role? I don't think so rn.

My take is reaching a position like VP which is a combination of individual skills + people management cannot be simply given because individually you achieved something

Like that you will question Aadit too 😮‍💨

GigglySushi
GigglySushi

Very unrelated argument. Aadit is the founder. I am interested to know about hires. Especially if someone at Zepto can check the internal database regarding his position or if they know him personally

Wahi to confirm karne ke liye bol rha hu.

He can be young OR it can be an inflated title.

Just asking someone to check.

JazzyBoba

Yes he is an actual VP, heading a pod with lead PMs and SPMs under him

Have you also worked with him at Zomato? Anything about his work ethic that we can also adopt?

DancingKoala

But in Zepto, only one GPM reports to him and one PM1. So, his designation is VP for sure but he is working like a Director: Product or even below that role. Mostly see him resolving Manual chat support issues.

So by going all of this, his title is way way inflated. On ground, he is not even close to reality.

I've worked with this Guy Bhtani, he's the very rare guy who is trying to build the right culture along with deep understanding of AI and long term sustainability. Really good working with him, really deserves the position. He has the calibre of fighting with leadership for the right thing and pushback unlike other folks.

GigglySushi

That's amazing considering he is just 28-29.

Don't go by designation. Every 3rd guy is a VP in investment banks

Have worked with this guy, he’s crazy good in terms of ideas and output and work ethic much deserved for him
