What is going on in Tata Digital?
Seen quite a few top/mid level exits in Tata Digital over the past two years.
Recent one is this https://m.economictimes.com/tech/technology/churn-on-tata-digital-loses-another-senior-executive-as-travel-head-subramanian-exits/amp_articleshow/104762870.cms
What is going on in Tata Digital? Is the tech and Product teams actually good enough? Or is it something related to process/culture?
- Huge competition and low margin
- Bad team
- Process and structure isn't optimised
- Mindset isn't frugal but cash burning 🥵
- Play long term game not short term
If they fail it will be case study for hbr.
Like literally u have
Tata consumer Tata airlines Tata motors Tata 1mg Tata big basket
You have to just give good user experience with recurring translation and a reward model.
-
Huge competition and low margin - That is the case with any company entering the e-commerce, payments, super app space in the early days
-
Bad team - This is subjective as most folks who joined them over the last two years and are still there, have had successful stints in growth phase of previous startups.
-
Process and structure isn't optimised - Elaborate please? Would like to know more on this, as it can actually be the main reason. Also, it will be a very top-down hierarchial set-up compared to typical VC-backed Indian startups.
-
Mindset isn't frugal but cash burning - This is the case with any startup trying to make a dent in the initial days for highly competitive sectors.
-
Play long term game not short term - Isn't this a good thing in some way?
I believe product team is good(mix bag of talent and experience). Tech team is bad. Experience people but cant cope up with fast paced development. About culture, its kind of a lala culture company. You have to do what CEO wants however illogical that sounds.
