My personal reason for donating is gratitude for being fortunate enough to be living and breathing healthy and free and empathy for the unfortunate folks having to fight for basic needs.
Don't have a number. I donate to orphanages and old-age homes during all major festivals.
I'm not religious, but sometimes I do donate to temples when I'm traveling ONLY if it is for annadaan/free food.

Exactly my approach too. I usually donate or order online stuffs, on all such religious or life occasions- festivals, birthdays etc. I wish people make it a habit to spend more time in taking care of underprivileged than doing religious ceremonies. Helping the needy should be considered the best form of worshipping God, and yet people donโt do that and just spend so much time and money in religious stuffs.
I avoid giving money for temple development and stuff simply because there are so many rich families out there who do can that and have their name on a plaque inside the temple.
Like you said service to man is service to God. I don't believe in the existence of latter, but the man in need is right before my eyes and if I can do something about it then that's what I will choose to!

I donate to an NGO that feeds stray dogs

It's actually 50โ in terms of income tax, GST, etc... But guess that's not what you asked for. So voted 0.

Wonโt even donate my shit. There is no transparency and very little impact.
Only thing for which gains my interest is AIIMS research fund etc.
