  1. What's your relationship status? If you don't wanna go, you can use this as an excuse. I think they'll understand.
  2. Have you been to one before? If you haven't, you don't wanna have any surprises in front of your VP. wink wink

I guess being honest is the best solution in any scenario. If you feel you'll miss out on being social you can invite them to hangout at a different spot later.
