Why does Big 4 underpay their employees?

I personally feel that Big 4 has cornered the market for a lot of entry level professionals. It is somehow considered that Big 4 is a prestigious job ( but, without the prestigious pay lmao). I personally feel that these companies need to be disrupted so hard by a small and lean team using tech to solve problems at their scale and F them over to teach them a lesson on their complacency.

So they can overpay people on top management positions.

@FlakySmolt2 Not so simple no? You can't underpay people if you don't have pricing power. They are colluding to keep employee salaries artificially low for sure.

Thing is they are underpay existing employees. For new joiners there is no such bar.

New joiners later bear the brunt of the pay parity mumbo jumbo if they stay for long!

Big 4s or any Indian practice for that matter do not follow pay revision in congruence with the inflation index.
EY India for instance used to pay 12-13 lacs for the senior consultant level in forensics in 2015. It is not much changed even now.

Because they are Big-4 and not Small-4
