Will future generations be more intelligent or less so than us?

Hey folks, an open ended question.

Most of us grew up without AI, and I didn’t even have Google the first 10 years of my life properly. Because of this, we had to rely on people around us, books and schools for our mental growth.

The new generation will be heavily AI reliant. And arguably AI is a better school or book than any that I ever had.

So the question is, will current gen be objectively smarter than the previous gen? If yes, in what ways. If no, in what ways.

Curious to see what people here think

they probably will be more intelligent but will lack other skills imo.

Skills like what? Drawing and writing? I certainly think they won’t be able to write long pages by themselves as we did in engineering exams to try and deceive teachers 😆

If we compare ourselves with our forefathers then definitely our survival skills in wild are less compared to them. The society has made us soft but we lead a more comfortable life and have better knowledge about world and other aspects of life. I expect similar things to happen where AI would take over most of the things which required grit and long hours of work. But life would also become easier and workers more productive.

Well put actually.

So a better life but we may lose some of our current capabilities which AI will take up and automate.

I always feel that the next gen is intelligent than it’s predecessor. Particularly that the basic needs of food and education are almost solved, I feel next gen will have easy access to enormous knowledge base.

JumpyWaffle
JumpyWaffle

For sure. Access to enormous knowledge. But would it affect their brains. What tasks would they be better at vs worse at compared to us

It’s like some of the skills we’ll completely forget, may be like bargaining, like talking to people for directions or similar like navigating without a digital assistant.

With respect to AI, may be the immediate basic things which I’m thinking we may lose is that our ability to write clearly without assiatance. Critical/logical thinking will also be affected, am not sure.

The knowledge gap in the average population will increase. The more knowledgeable will be more powerful, rich and the less will be at their mercy. On an average the average intelligence will increase but the society will throw much harder challenges which negates the uptick in intelligence and gives the spoil to the top percentile of the population

One of the major things they will lack for sure is differentiating fake va real info

Scary scenerio ahead, only the ultra smart will survive, it is the time when we will need to selectively reproduce only the best … wait for the dumb to die and make sure they are sterilised There wont be any place for mediocre. AI makes our life easy, but certainly gonna make us dumber.. who are actually thinking of a logic nowadays to solve coding problems?

JumpyWaffle
JumpyWaffle

People are still thinking of logic I believe. They're just ignoring syntax. Which is okay

Reflection: Not doing anything is how you get smart

Your thinking patterns develop and evolve when you're unfazed by external stimuli. Just alone with your mind, and constructing new ways to think.

Children who get time to dream imagine think that way, go on to be the smartest
