Unemployed and Depressed
I have been unemployed for the past 6 months and have been rejected in a dozen of interviews. How can i get my confidence back?
I have done by Engineering from IIT Delhi and I have a total 8 years of work experience in data analytics and product management. I was making over 80 LPA in my last job. I have tried everything. Have asked for a referral from so many people. Agreed to take a massive paycut. Prepared really well for the interviews but i am not getting the results. Most of the times companies don’t even let you know the outcome. After every interview i am hopeful that i will get it this time but to my disappointment they don’t call back. Every time i get a call from an unknown number i get hopeful that this might be the HR or the recruiter calling to congratulate me. My parents call me daily asking about my job situation. I have started avoiding their calls. I have even stopped replying to my friends. I feel like a total loser. I have never failed so many times in a row. I barely feel like getting out of bed now.

This will pass hang in there. You will get through this. Have faith keep trying
Bro you were earning 80Lakhs. You made 2-3 times more than someone else during that period. Be happy and don't be depressed. Your IIT tag will give you job soon.

Talent acquisition team who are reading these kind of post, have empathy towards your candidates. Understand it’s market have excessive candidates. This doesn’t mean you keep looking for candidates and leave the ones who have gone through the process. Don’t play with someone’s hope and job 🙏

It's not you. It's the market. I know extremely talented people who would usually find a job without even trying, struggle to even get shortlisted in last 6 months. However the winds are shifting. We are already struggling to close offers since last couple of weeks and I see the competition between offers has started going up. My guess is we will start seeing 2021 level fomo sometime post July when all companies suddenly see that they do indeed need engineers to replace general attrition and the ones they laid off.
Meanwhile don't sit on your hands. 6 months career gap isn't going to look good during interviews. Start your own thingy and show that as the gap.

Hang in there buddy. This too shall pass. Engage yourself in some other activities to disconnect and start afresh. Staying positive will help you a lot, i know it's hard but try it.
Keep in touch with your best friends during such times doing random bakchodi will help a lot. Take a short trip. I know it's easier said than done, but you have to try it. Only you can help yourself in coming out of this situation.
Boss you are in better position compared to others in market, hang in there, be persistent and consistent with what you are doing, this too shall pass

Start doing small, even low paid, analytics gigs. Try and do a small one for large Indian companies. They will pay very low and that too after a lot of chasing. But if u do it well they will give u another and then another. But if u bill too much they will resent it! Funny how that works. Then find another client and another one. Do ur own business.. bcos of IIT tag u will get some projects quite quickly. First do all. Then get picky. Eventually take 1-2 quality ones and 1-2 lucrative ones. After a while u may have to hire someone. Do that only if u have 6m-1yr cash in bank for their salary. Once there is more income hire another. Then chase profits. Eventually u will have a good biz. Remember to file ur taxes and keep ur compliance clean. CAs are cheap.. get one to do ur taxes, gst etc. Good luck!
