So it's that time of the year when variable payouts are being processed. Everyone’s excited, checking their bank accounts. I get the email from HR - "Your annual bonus is..." I open it It’s enough to buy me a nice lunch I go to my boss and ask him about it He says "We had a tough year, need to tighten our belts" I look at his belt - it’s designer Meanwhile, I’m tightening mine to skip meals. I said "Thanks" and left. He says "Keep up the good work" I leave the meeting room and start Googling jobs - CONFESSED NO ONE

I have for the past couple of months gone through really pathetic and exploitative behaviour of the Indian companies (especially startups). > They ask to do extensive assignments, wasting a lot of time, just because they have an upper hand > Then they completely ghost candidates with no response (most times) / delayed response This is really pathetic. Lack of empathy just shows how immature and under-developed you are. If you ask someone to invest their time, you have the responsibility of timely and proper communication. ALMOST ALL STARTUP HIRING MANAGERS AND HR TEAMS NEED TO UNDERSTAND THIS.

Nobody even bothers to know thier rights as employess due to the state of poor law enforment, slow courts, and sometimes influential upper management in companies/ startups. I was the second engineer at a crypto wallet startup that shut down early this year. The founder had promised to issue shares that’d be 1%-2% of company. I trusted the guys and never asked for a share certificate. BIG MISTAKE. When we got a pre-seed check they refused to give me anything above 0.2% and tried to settle with a little more money. I resigned the same day.

So, I joined this company located in Delhi last year from Bangalore as a permanent WFH employee. Initial 6 months were fine, even though I was aware they had pre-installed tracking software called "Teramind" while sending the laptop! But in the last 3 months the work culture or environment has completely flipped and turned into Toxic. First they made us install a remote tracking software called "Hubstaff" which tracks keyboard and mouse activity and time, and takes 4 screenshots every 10 minutes. Then they made it compulsory 8 hours a day excluding any break like lunch or tea. This month they tied work hours with Salary and started deducting the entire day's pay even if you are short by like half an hour! Almost all employees know they need to leave but are kinda stuck due to the current job market situation. I'M thinking of quitting without finding another job now, I'm just mentally tired and frustrated with the situation I find myself in. All my emotional energy is spent, I just don't know what to do😞
