Any engineer who shifted to finance
I am an engineering student in Bangalore I have read about different jobs in first year and now I am getting really interested in finance. I have no interest in core engineering and tech and Consulting is difficult to get into right after undergraduate. But I am feeling really under confidence to jump into it , I feel I am making a wrong decision. I have seen people who did only finance related internships in their engineering but they are from IITs . Any engineer who switched to finance here can share your experience ? I got interested in finance after reading about PE , VC , investing. .
Repeat after me and mark my words -
1. Do whatever the fuck you find your interest in.
You are young, energetic, fresh minded. Go after finance. Dont do any of these analysis-paralysis. Dont get into coding if you don't enjoy it. It's totally okay. Go after what you like, finance in this case. It will be worth it within next 1-2 years.
Whatever you do with your interest, will be worth it. Go for it!

If you are happier looking at balance sheets/income statements and Excel files then code then I guess makes sense to move to finance

I don't know whether I like balance sheets or income statement but I am willing to do anything other than coding , I absolutely have no interest in coding and even if k dedicate time to it I can't be decent at it .
This is good enough reason to leave coding. Don’t go into coding or your life will be hell. (If you had said same thing for finance I’d have advised same with finance too)
Find something you love. But since not all of us have a hobby that can give us financial satisfaction, find something you can put up with. It may not be something you love, but it should be a trade off between how much you are earning and how much that thing sucks life out of you.
It doesn’t sound very pleasing, but sadly this is the condition that we have. It’s only practical. Since finance doesn’t make you want to run away like coding does, and you don’t seem to have anything better right now, try finance.
My only suggestion would be to first give an honest and open minded try at coding because it is financially very rewarding. If you get a hang of it, you might end up liking it too. Good luck. Choose wisely
