North Indian in Chennai, option to move to Noida, should one take it?
I have been in a rewarding career in Chennai for about a decade. Came in as a fresher but now married and have 2 kids. Have an option to move to Noida now. Given cultural differences, elder kid now finds it difficult to adjust at school. Elderly parents dont find the weather and neighbors friendly enough to live with me for more than a month. Remain stuck in the apartment. People who have lived both in Chennai and Noida, please share your experiences on a cost of living and future career options in NCR perspective.
North Indian here who grew up in Chennai and now working here.Parents originally from Gurgaon.I have worked in Bangalore,Kolkata and Gurgaon before.
NCR has good public transport connectivity through metro except for Gurgaon.
Chennai metro is good too but limited to few areas for now with suburban train network complimenting it. Once all lines are complete it would be as good as NCR.
With respect to opportunities I feel NCR has a edge and I feel due to higher cost of living can get a better package there.Lot of startups and product based companies are present in NCR.In Chennai people do move bangalore and Hyderabad for better opportunities.
Deal breaker is the pollution. I have better health in Chennai in comparison to Gurgaon.
Another Deal breaker is as you mentioned culture and language. It's a personal thing.I have felt comfortable in Chennai since I know Tamil and love it here while retaining our North Indianess. Also have good north Indian crowd here in places like Sowcarpet,Anna Nagar,Egmore. Also I have noticed people speaking in hindi in past few years.People are generally respectful and polite here if you remove the politics. It might diffrent for you and NCR maybe better. No one has same experience of the same place .
Rent really depends on the area you live in both NCR and Chennai.Cost of buying a house depends on the same.Real estate is always tricky.
I would also having some close and trustable acquaintances in a city improves the experience which I feel is Noida for you.
I have been exposed to diverse cultures in Chennai which are in extremes due to which I feel comfortable in different languages and cultures.
There might be more points in support of both places but really depends on what are you looking for at present. I suggest to research those throughly as it will impact your family.Best city would be where your family feels comfortable.

My motive is at present driven by family needs. Else i had a wonderful time here in Chennai. Rent wise i pay around 26k for a 2bhk in a good gated community. Office commute is 40 mins/16km
Am looking for some place in Greater Noida from where my office in Sector 144 would be within similar distance.
My father was once in this position himself amd he ultimately chose what was best for the family but he yearns to shift to NCR now.
144 is connected to metro so traveling should not be an issue.Rent seems to be similar.Just take care of your work environment as have heard noida is but more on the toxic side.
Increase in self esteem registered, me and my parents discuss the same thing every few months since they are looking for AM matches and Chennai does not have a good brand value in that scenario. Things are bit complicated as my father is getting treated for cancer here.
I do plan to eventually move out .Planning to stay at few major cities for few days and see which feels fine to live in and with career aspect too as I have remote job.

You should take it
10 years is a long time, if you still thinking of moving that means there are few things which you experienced were not as per expectations.
It always feels good if you stay close to home.
You will have social circle in Noida with similar interests.
There are many aspects- If salary is good in Noida
Just travel here.
