How is working in a B2B startup different from working in B2C from a SDE/PM perspective.

How difficult is it to transition from a PM at a B2B startup to becoming a PM at a B2C one? If anyone has done this recently, was there are any upskilling required? What is the sentiment when you apply for such roles? Is there a significant difference in pay?

I'll be soon shifting from a B2B SaaS early stage to an early-growth stage D2C consumer product startup. I am one of the early hires in the product function. While I understand that there is a significant difference in the role and responsibilities of a PM in both the positions, I couldn't find many resources available online to help with this. Would love to hear opinions from both B2B and D2C PMs on the difference in their roles. Would also appreciate any tips and advice for my new role. Thanks!

Looking for insights into possibilities for switching to a Consumer facing Product Manager role, when one has spent majority time in their career in a B2B PM role. I’m in my early career stage (3 YOE, 25 YO) in Product Management with B2B firms. I really wanna switch into a B2C role - but I am worried that my experience is highly B2B centric and would limit my chances. Many companies come up with “n+ years in a B2C product” in their requirements. Looking for any tips from people more experienced, also if any PMs have made such a switch.

I’m a fresher and working in a D2C startup and manage the sales team . Should I be moving to B2B sales to see real money ?

This is not a question for the cocky new grad in the overvalued startup, but for the few seasoned PMs that still reply out here. Where do PMs go after they peak? By peaking I mean arriving at a GPM or Staff PM position at the top 10-15 companies (you can do your own ranking here). Nobody has the true statistics but I will use the assumption that 75% (debatable) of those who peak, will get laid off within 2 years from their ‘peak role’. The remaining will be able to progress into DoP and VP in the same top company or another in the top 15. Where do they go then? I am pretty positive, from experience, that they don’t go any up. Do they go down the ladder of new startups for titles and ending up in the worst ones after being laid off 4-5 times? Do they quit all together? Do they open a farm? Do they start their own startup? Comments and thoughts folks!
