Concerned by junior devs being over reliant on Chatgpt

How to teach my junior who only relies on chatgpt. They will not look into documentation/IDE suggestions to understand what they are copying. I am concerned that in this way, they aren't going to learn about the entire system and grow to work independently. How data flows in the system and where to look into if something is wrong. Basically, they are not trying to understand the code they are writing. How do I bring this to them and explain that they need to use less chatgpt to actually understand what they are supposed to do or are going to write. Once they have that experience, I am fine with them using chatGPT as much as they want to.

I have around 8 years of active development work experience across multiple stacks, both front end and backend. From past 6 months I have been using GPT as assistant and must say it’s getting dangerously perfect . We are now able to do projects at almost half the cost. There has literally been no hiring done for 6 months without affecting productivity a bit. I wonder how many days before it takes over half the jobs in tech including mine.

I work at a fintech company.. We have a engineering team of 35 dev which includes around 10 senior devs and the remaining are interns and junior devs.. we got called for a productivity improvement meeting by one of the senior developer and he just denied chatgpt for us.. Okay I’am biased here.. I agree we need to embrace new technologies.. But his point was to use chatgpt promts to write all of our code and it makes no sense.. He demoed chatgpt promts and was like “ see you don’t need to write a single line of code “ When we told we should not solely depend on tools such as copilot or chatgpt as it will not help us as well as the interns and the junior devs.. You code to learn .. you don’t learn to code .. Just by copy pasting code snippets for chatgpt will take them nowhere and I’m pretty sure it will confuse them even more .. What do you guys feel ?
