5 years I gave to TCS, in return I got nothing...
Just finished my 5th year at TCS Bangalore and I need to say something that everyone thinks but nobody speaks. You all living in fantasy world thinking we are some top IT company.
Let me tell you what happened last week. New project came from US client big money deal. Everyone excited. RK sir called team meeting and what I saw made my blood boil.
Same old story: 4 developers from "you know which college" got picked for lead roles. Me sitting there with 5 years experience and better performance ratings had to report to these juniors who only know to say "yes sir" to client.
Actual scene in office these days: Morning 9 AM: cool guys from premium colleges stroll in with Starbucks 10 AM: Still doing "stand-up" meeting 11 AM: Discussion about "architecture" (means watching YouTube) 2 PM: Long lunch break 4 PM: Start actual work 7 PM: Tell others to stay back for "knowledge transfer" 9 PM: Finally leave while saying "work-life balance is important yaar"
Meanwhile people like us: 8:30 AM: Reach office first 9 AM-9 PM: Head down working No fancy coffee No long lunches No politics
But guess what? Next promotion cycle same story. They say "need to improve communication skills." What they mean is my father not big shot and I studied in normal engineering college.
And dont even get me started about salary. New joinees with fancy degrees getting 12 LPA while experienced people stuck at 8 LPA. How this making sense? Just because someone father paid 25 lakhs for degree means they better?
Reality is client delivery happening because of hardworking middle class engineers like us. Not because of these "architects" who only know fancy buzzwords.
I know many of you facing same thing. But everyone scared to speak. HR will tell "not aligned with culture." What culture? Culture of discrimination?
Before you attack me saying I'm jealous let me tell you, I'm proud of my background. Proud that I reached here with pure merit. But system needs to change.
Those who know they know.

The entitlement and delusion is strong with this one.
-
"You all living in fantasy world thinking we are some top IT company." - NO ONE thinks that.
-
"you know which college” - which college? IIT?
-
"Me sitting there with 5 years experience and better performance ratings had to report to these juniors who only know to say “yes sir” to client." - If you're here even after so many insults like this, maybe you're not as good as you think you are. Ratings mean jack.
-
"my father not big shot and I studied in normal engineering college." You need a rank to get into premium colleges, not a big shot father.
-
"New joinees with fancy degrees getting 12 LPA while experienced people stuck at 8 LPA. How this making sense? Just because someone father paid 25 lakhs for degree means they better?" - IIT for 25 lakhs, let me know where's this offer running? You're stuck at 8LPA because of only you. No one's stopping you from getting into better firms except you.
You're talking as if TCS is the only company in the world. If you don't like how you're treated, have some self respect and switch. Crying won't get you anywhere.

I agree with you, but like to add that if you hire freshers and straight off place them as leads over experience employees, then the company cant complain being non-productive, and employees leaving. Maybe let them start in engineering roles and then move then up the ladder in a year or two.

I'm not OP but I think he may be talking about BITS or VIT which are famous for large fees.

Bro, you said everything I've been feeling.
7 years here, and it’s the same story. If you don’t have the right connections or a certain college name, you're treated as second-class, no matter how good you are at your job.

You’re not alone, buddy. This is the sad reality of not just TCS but most big Indian IT companies.

So true! Especially the salary part, ridiculous how juniors with fancy backgrounds come in at higher pay than us, who have been working for years. It’s demotivating.
Saala, we're the ones keeping the projects going, and they’re the ones getting the credit and promotion bc.

Don’t lie. You might have received stress , long working hours, low increments and lot more.

Bhai ye toh real baat kardi tumne

Totally agree with you. I’m at Infosys, and it’s the same story here. It’s like if you didn’t attend an IIT/IIM, they don’t see you as “leadership material.”
Sab bakwaas karte hain

You may be proud of you background but jealousy stems from knowing that you'd be prouder if you had their background.
If you're really great at your job and do not think your current environment is meritocratic, all it takes is an email to leave for a workplace ideal for you. What are you waiting for - someone to walk in to your office and carry you in their arms to their company to choose a paycheck of a size you think you deserve? Or are they all "corporate politics and discrimination" companies and there's none that really does meritocracy like you would? Then start one

I do agree but this story doesn't end with a college degree only!!! It can be a technology stack as well Let's say there are two people A and B from the same college like state college, A is really working hard to get a job while B got the job just because he impressed the interviewer and after joining they A got a very old technology where literally no learnings and demand in market and B got cool technology like AI and full stack type and after 2 year B switched to a company with 200% hike and A is still working hard with legacy technology
What's your thought on this??

Die lie. You might have received stress , long working hours, low increments and lot more.

Do not join TCS at the early stage of life with a low salary with expectations that it will grow after a year or two as promotions are very slow. If you are getting a role with a salary up to the mark go ahead but the promotions and hik...

Why are 2-3 YOE people calling themselves leader(product leader , engineering leader)?
It takes time to understand and master any domain. You have to do something substantial. Where has the humility gone? Does calling yourself Leader increases chances of getting jobs? It’s mind boggling And shallow.

100’s of Vice President in banking orgs..

My journey from TCS to running my own IT company with 20Cr annual turnover.
After completing my BTech. I joined TCS for 2LPA. My RMG(read: The most hated folks at TCS) came up with the stupidest project and forced me to join it. She brutally harassed me for 3 days straight to take that project and I kept denyi...
