‚Why do you want to leave your current company after just over a year?’
Hi everyone. I have an introductory call scheduled with a recruiter. My current company has terrible leadership and toxic wlb where my inputs are not valued much since they feel juniors are completely dumb. I joined this company (after completing 6 months of internship) right after my graduation in June 2022. I'm sure I'll be asked this question of leaving my current company after just over a year. What should I respond with?
Been in your shoes. I was pretty honest and told recruiters that the culture in my company wasn't positive.
Don't over speak and go into any details on it although. Keep it brief
Don’t make it about just the company
It’s considered negative to bad mouth your current employer, even if you’re being real
I’ve gone with “the strategic direction they were taking/where my role was heading didn’t align with what I want to do in the mid to long term@

I say my company is planning layoffs (which they could be) and reactions are always sympathetic.
