Super toxic place and manager is an ass.

I work in a slowing industry (Ed-Tech!) in a generalist role (Project Management!) for half a decade now! You'd think I would be better positioned to deal with life! Heck, NO! This crippling feeling of insecurity or job loss always puts an extra stress on day to day life. I couldn't take any risks in terms of a house or a car or a big EMI purchase in life! What if I get laid off? Will this generalist role help in landing anything next? Do I need an MBA for that? Switching to any specialized roles will take extensive preparation with time being in short supply with family and kids! Seem to have been strangled in the startup world. Any cure for this? P.S : Sometimes thinking : Mommy sahi bolti thi. Govt job le leni chahiye thi. :D

So, I'm a graduate from BBA and I'm working with a small to medium sized organization with around 200 people. I'm a guy. It's in Education Sector. I joined right after my graduation. The first year, I did nothing so I was given a formality hike of 5k. They offered me 20k initially p.m. Now my 2nd year working here is completed so now, I have done more than 25 major roles which no one can do. That makes up work of more than 20+ people. Now that i asked for a raise, they are saying they are in losses and they don't have the budget and shit. The only reason I'm working here is that I love the Manager aka Director. He has been like a mentor, when I was facing hardship, he has given me money without even a second thought. I have been discussing this with him. Now he was saying the organization might increase my salary to 30k. I'm like the fuck are you even speaking. I really don't wanna leave the organization because of this person at the same time I don't wanna stay in an organization which doesn't give an absolute crap about me. Please tell me what shall I do. These are the points I raised: 1. I need to get paid for the value I give. I have done more than 20+ peoples works. Even if you hire some incompetent people, the time, value and efforts would cost more than to pay me. His counter: Treat this organization as a cost-cutting and work with me on other businesses and which he offered me to compensate with if I work there My thought: if I work here, and get compensates there. What about the work do there? How will I be compensated? 2. We are ready to pay more to people who do jackshit work but we have policies to people who actually do work? They have gone over the budget for people who talked big and did absolute shit. His counter: We are in losses and we might not have the budget My thought: So we are doing cost cutting by hiring shitty people for more money and compensating it by paying the valuable people jackshit? Please help me Thanks!

I am thinking of leaving my current job and focus on myself, getting to know myself better etc. Currently I have enough money saved for my expenses for next 6-8 months. Everyone I have asked about this say don't leave your job if you don't have another lined up, in this tech winter. I understand their view point. It aligns with what my parents think as well. Is there anyone who has had done this in the past? Do you recommend this route? Are the consequences far too severe? Does anyone have a different opinion from one stated above?

Hi folks, It’s a very detrimental time for me. I have been working with an organisation I don’t want to name. My manager is beyond Toxic, each day there hasn’t been a single day he hasn’t yelled at me and few other new folks in the team regardless of us doing heavy sweeping. He is so Toxic that even through I have leaves he does not approve them, recently someone in my family passed away even through I discussed I will be out of station and would be on leave to which he agreed. He has rejected it on the 2nd last day, when I have booked the flights and assured my family that I will be there at this grave time when they need me. I am at a point where he has pushed me to a point wherein I don’t have an option but to resign which he did around the financial year closing so the increment will be divided amongst less number of people. I have an education loan to look after and responsibilities of my parents, I am the single breadwinner in the family at this point of time. Hanging in there is becoming really difficult. Any advice or help would really help.

My new manager is completely devoid of common sense, an absolute yes man, doesn't listen to existing employees opinions and views who are below him, asks the same question atleast 6 times, and results in zero learning. Given the bad job market, I am stopping myself from quitting almost daily. What to do?

Someone in ur team or someone u had good relationship (work wise) with gets laid off? Do u discontinue working as hard? Does ur team velocity decrease or increase as everyone does better for survival? Just wanna hear from folks who have gone through this and does employer not see any affect in work? (E.g. Twitter case)

When i was in college i wanted to build my own company/product. Thought of many ideas and tried to build something. None of them worked and it affected my studies so I had to quit just to clear my exams. After college I took placements in a WITCH like company where I got put into data entry/operations job after clearing difficult coding interviews (kismat kharab?). Somehow learnt new technologies on the side and managed to switch to a development role at a lower salary in a startup. After 3 years Worked hard on DSA and (barely) managed to get a good offer with above average pay. But the company is not stable anymore and may layoff at any time. Right now struggling to learn enough DSA to crack any company. Now I am almost 30, i have no hobbies,no talents, no relationships just trying to have a stable career. I see people everywhere doing so many things at once. How do they manage to do this. They are working at FAANG and managing businesses at the same time, have a bunch of friends. What am I doing wrong?

I have heard a lot of people suggesting stay on a technical side ,coding side if you don’t want to be laid off and always have a market value . But now I see almost everyone is getting laid off !! What are your suggestions? Choose a career into coding or technical side only or go into other roles like technical functional ,product owner etc.
