Cleartrip claims to have such a feature offering full refund on flight ticket cancellations in case of medical emergencies. has anyone availed this ? any reviews ? is it really that simple ? what kind of documents are they expecting ? can it be potentially abused ?

24hrs before flight- you can cancel the flight for a full refund stating medical reasons.
You or immediate family members like Parents, siblings, & in-laws, can fall ill - get a not fit for flying certificate.
While cancelling the booking, the flow is in the app only to upload documents and all. You will be alerted of the approval.
On the website there is a link for reading through everything.

You have to simply submit valid medical documents, authenticated by Allopathic doctors and you can raise cancellation on flight bookings. You don’t have to pay any penalty for the cancellation. However, they do retain a small fee equivalent to convenience charges so that you can experience seamless travel for your next destination, provided you’re keeping better health. Furthermore, with Cleartrip, you can avail a refund on hotel bookings up to INR 25000. This feature is only for India so people from other countries may not be able to avail this feature.
