Is living in India worth it?

As someone who’s been in both places I personally would say go abroad. I know this might come from a point of privilege , no commitments , relatively young parents who run their own businesses so financially I don’t have to support them and we have people to help us with whatever we need. However I would say go abroad because of the experience you get to new cultures and people as well as most often than not you do get a better work life culture than the ones we face here in India if we even have one. Laws are more worker friendly (white collar). You can always come back to India. However it’s all got to do with you as an individual and your luck and determination. You might have some difficulties at the start but if you get through it you’d actually see why people run off abroad. Nationalist pride is bullshit when there’s no benefit of you staying here. Build India , help your country is just a lot of propaganda that is fed to emotionally blackmail us , don’t fall for it. You get nothing for the taxes you pay. Stay in India only if you’re rich and powerful else move away to somewhere better. Your future generations will thank you.

Your parents' love is worth it. Didn't your parents work hard and raise you? Culture is what kept them grounded. A lot of the posts you see are from people who have been derooted from their culture, have nothing else to fallback on, and end up ranting here due to lack of other vent for stress. Your parents would have ranted between themselves. What kept them sane was their rootedness. Yes, Indians work hard. Chinese and Koreans work harder. Americans work relatively lesser and Europeans have stopped working. These have larger negative ramifications for the West, something you will see in the next 5-10 years. It's not all rosy everywhere else.

I think this argument is purely subjective. Some people are hell bent on living abroad and some still want to live in India. I won’t say one is better over other unlike a few commenting here & it’s just the way they are trying to influence you with their own bias. But I’m amazed at your lack of judgement. 1. Grapevine app is meant to rant about everything happening in corporates in India. It represents a sample of people living in India that want to unleash themselves. Imagine checking the Blind app and coming to conclusion that living in the US is useless. 2. If looking at people’s comments here makes you regret about living in India, then I’m assuming you haven’t gained enough experience yourself at workplace or you are just validating your experience. With over 18+ years of experience, (2 years working abroad), I have seen both extremes in India(I have worked in 5 cities here), and I live in India by choice. Working in the US or the west might make you feel like living in an elevated status, but if that is all you aim for in life then you must go for it. On the other hand working in India as an IT professional is no less a badge of honor. Yes, standards in India are still poor compared to the west, but if you want to contribute to the cause to raise the bar living alongside your parents, there’s nothing better. The choice is yours.

I have lived and worked abroad and in india. Now running having a startup. India is place to be only if you are rich and can afford to live with out a job.. for a salaried job or own business being abroad is the best. You may get a bad boss there. Even thier worat boss will respect your personal time. The qorst boss will not 3xpect you to qork 12hrs a day or even look at you like you are doing a crime qhen yiu leave in th3 evening after your normal office hours. The odds of having a struggling life is rare abroad. But struggling here is a norm. Expectations to go beypnd your duty is a norm here. So bascially in india.. majority of your time will be taken by your company and most of ylthe money you earn will be taken as taxes. Patriotism and all is fine.. but we are a shitty country. Quality of life sucks. If you have expectations of any decent work life balance and managable work stress then you should have your own business that is not dependent on VC funding.

Work culture wise, let me tell you something that here it is a shithole….our management is in US but they’re still stuck with this labour extra phooking hours work mindset! Long run obv stay in India, but career wise spend most of the time abroad is my goal…just waiting for the opportunity.

Lol same companies u are reading horrible stuff about were giving red carpet in 2022. Go on blind and read bad stuff in abroad lands. Even now there are good companies but pay would be average or less. Anyway, thing is that it’s very easy to regret imagining grass is greener on other side. If u want a challenge, try being content.

I get that you’ve not had a very good experience of working in India. I’ve been working in a seed/series A funded startup and an MNC. Sometimes I want to go back to the seed funded startup for good work and good colleagues. I don’t expect startups to have politics as they’ve to ship cool stuff or die. I do however get to see lot of politics in my current MNC, I keep shut and endure as I’d like to go back to a B2b startup once economic things settle down a bit.

Working conditions are even poor in many developed countries like Japan, South Korea, Singapore, China,etc. Just check blind to know the reviews of people working in USA. In Europe only work life balance is good but salary compared to cost of living is very less.

It's not for quality of life. I moved back for family reasons. The awful climate, road and traffic experience is enough to make you hate this hellhole. Sure if you have a lot friends and strong family ties, it can be a good reason.
