[Thread] Why does every founder I know hate VCs to the core?
Because VCs and Founders are stuck in the same loop of eternal damnation. One will win over the other and no one knows which one.
I guess it's similar to the recruiter/candidate dynamic. Both want different things but can't do it without the other.
Because most associates and VCs in India are hired with no or minimal operating experience, yet possess a generic sense of overachievement at startups during the bull market due to overexpenditure on performance marketing, during which they often claimed credit for growth outcomes through 'deep gyan' posts on LinkedIn and Twitter about user persona and product insights.
This bloated ego, at an early stage in their career, coupled with the immense status driven by their role, leads to self-gloating while regurgitating the strategy and talking points of Western investment firms.
Now that you have achieved society’s utmost status in the startup world, with no real experience in building businesses or shipping products that can drive profits, self-preservation kicks in. This leads to embracing Machiavellian tactics, forcing founders to set rather shallow goals and targets to preserve the godly self at any cost.
Hence founders hate VCs.

Every VC I have met has been a massive narcissist. Present in the meeting physically but mentally dozing off to neverland

Founders hate VCs? It's simple. They're like the in-laws who fund your wedding but then dictate the menu.

Simple. When you deal with someone who is never upfront about their intentions, never candid in their feedback lest it should spoil a relationship, is selfish when the push comes to the shove, who is fake or pretentiously nice, only way you would like that person is if you are like that too (even then you may not).
Whatever their mandate or job requirements be, most vcs are never clear about what they are seeking. Ever heard of “we invest at the earliest stage” only to say to folks “you are too early”? Or butting in with clearly dumb opinions and thinking they should be praised cos they have money.
