Skill Development |Early PM

Hello fellow PMs I am giving my first ever tech round when it comes to PM interviews. What should I expect? How to answer? Can anyone share their experiences please? 🙏🙏🙏

I am 4 months into my first job as a product manager. I have never coded in my life except for a basic coding course in college. While I am always eager to understand technical concepts and tend to ask a lot of questions around the same I still feel there's a huge gap in communication. This leads to poorly estimated timelines, and often difficulty in assessing feasibility of ideas. I wish to learn more about software architecture, data management systems and the development processes in general. While I know I lack technical expertise, I don't want to discount the possibility of this just being a communication issue within the team. This is a series B startup just entering the growth phase, so no proper processes are set up as of now - again something I will have to streamline. My question is to all the product managers especially who don't come from a technical background - how did you bridge this gap?

What are the skills required to grow in a FinTech firm? Any specific technology to focus on?

I am a PM with 4 YOE and have been applying for PM and SPM roles. However, have been facing rejections and the reason they say is my problem solving in case studies was not structured as we'd like. Are there any experienced PM here who can help me with a few pointers on what the companies are looking at for such roles and if there are any resources that I can make use of to become better.

What questions are asked for a product mgmt interview? How can one become a PM without tech background? I have product strategy background. In interviews i am able to ace product sense / product strategy questions but when it comes to tech, unable to show the required tech acumen (due to lack of actual exposure to it). Should I just stay put in product / business strategy roles or move into product mgmt? Reasons for moving into PM - want career and monetary growth, build tech stuff and not just strategise stuff. Have 6 yrs experience (2 yrs pre MBA data analytics+ 2 yrs business strategy + 2 yrs product strategy).

I've been working as an APM at a startup for about 6 months. I kinda fell into the role. Was a developer previously for about a year. So in total about 2 years of industry experience. As an APM, I've not gotten a lot of opportunities to work on hands on PM stuff. My line manager isn't a great mentor and despite having conversations with him to give me more product related tasks, my situation has not improved. What should I do? Will I be able to land another APM or a PM job elsewhere?

Hey Grapeviners, I need some serious help. Bit about myself - just graduated this month and working as an APM at a seed stage startup. I have 1.5 years of product experience and 3 years of overall experience. Lately, not sure why but I am loving what engineers do. Closely working with them, and I guess it's nostalgic for myself. Because I did coding for 6 months and moved on for some reason. So, I understand how tech actually works. Have got good feedback regarding this. At the same time, I am not really finding the true value of what I am doing everyday. Feels a void inside. Also, I am not able to discuss all these things in person with someone, because I fear that they will judge me after doing internships for 3 years, I still haven't figured out my career. Such a loser I am. I have been thinking about starting coding again and maybe switching to a coding job in the next 6 months maybe. But again it would be tough for me as I only got weekends for me to learn all this stuff. What do you all experienced folks suggest? What should I do? Please comment if you can help🙏
