Suggest tips to spend a sabbatical.

I want to quit my job and take a break. I Have been contemplating to do the same for almost an year but decided not to do it. So many things have happened since then 1. Layoff wave started in india 2. Got married 3. Had to move back to bangalore from hometown Reason I want to quit is I don't feel like working , feeling bored and work doesn't interest me that much. I want to take a break chill for a bit but don't have guts to do the same considering market conditions ( what if I don't get a job when I am back in the market😅) Please give any advice on how to tackle this situation or if someone has gone through the same, would love to hear your experience. Also how is the product hiring currently in India? PS: I do have a good runway for 4-5 months considering all expenses but I am scared to take the step

I am thinking of leaving my current job and focus on myself, getting to know myself better etc. Currently I have enough money saved for my expenses for next 6-8 months. Everyone I have asked about this say don't leave your job if you don't have another lined up, in this tech winter. I understand their view point. It aligns with what my parents think as well. Is there anyone who has had done this in the past? Do you recommend this route? Are the consequences far too severe? Does anyone have a different opinion from one stated above?

I am hoping for a sabbatical from my consulting job for my mental health for 1.5 months. Folks who have experience with this- do sabbaticals generally ever affect promotions or performance based incentives? How should i proceed in such a situation?

Hi everyone, need your suggestions on something. I was recently talking to my mom, who's currently a housewife. She's been a working woman till her late 20s and then left her job because of my birth. Later, when I reached my teens, she tried resuming her career but couldn't succeed becaus companies won't take someone with such a huge career break. She also tried starting something of her own but didn't work out because of the nature of the business. So she's been at home for a very long time. Now, I am a working man myself and usually not at home because of tight work schedules. My mother gets a lot of time at home and has been wanting to do something but is unable to get a direction. What are some of the things she can do to keep herself busy/ restart her career? Some things that I could think of were: 1) can do some short term educational courses online 2) join some NGO, or some communities (pls note, she is not the type to go to kitty parties😅) 3) open a small at-home business (will appreciate ideas for this) Also, is anyone aware of any part-time job portals for women with career breaks? Please drop your suggestions below.

Has anyone here with Tech work experience (India) (not from MAANG or any reputed companies, or tier 1 colleges ) taken a career break for personal reasons ? Not talking essential leaves maternity break or something like that, but more like for well being/upskilling/travel etc, whatever it maybe. Could you share your experience ? What was your experience like getting back to work/interview experience ? I am considering taking one myself. I know this is normalised on Europe, but I feel in India, many people (esp. some recruiters) find this weird and most people are even scared about taking a break. Thoughts ?

Been 8 damn years of corporavery (Corporate Slavery), oh by the way, 1 year of career break and learnt real life skills equivalent to 5 years of growth in corporate. So back to point - Sabbatical! How easy or hard to be eligible for this? Am I entitled to attain this? Will there be a drawback gap in my Curriculum vitae? I am craving for it and need to hear positive experiences of sabbatical journeys...

I am considering taking a 6-month break from my career. Currently, I have 2 years of experience in the IT sector. I would like to know if it is feasible to re-enter the IT industry after this break. Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated.

My partner works at a product company that has a US HQ quite close to where I live and work. She is what you would call a critical resource of the company leading and driving multiple projects. She likes her role and while she will be relocating to US, wants to do everything to keep it in one way or another. Besides from the usual process of submitting resignation, how can she make effective use of the fact that she could potentially move here internally on an L1 visa or worst case keep connections warm and re-apply for a role here after relocating to US. Anything better than notice period and severing all ties. My perception of moving internally to US/Europe has been that its not only extremely difficult because companies here would prefer having an India cost center given its layoff/recession season in US but also due to the challenge of headcount requirements in the same business unit. Besides an L1 application costs about $15k. All of these factors make things trickier for her to keep her job in some form or the other. How should she make the most of this situation? Are there any other outcomes here that I am missing?
